Savchenko/Massot: Sights on Beijing 2022

Hmm... I would be super super surprised if they really came back, even more surprised if they won, but then again, Aljona has had a very surprising career. :)

Would love to see them continue to skate together in any case, even if only in shows.

She will be 38.

More power to her if her body can still handle it. I was done dancing at an elite level right after I turned 30. I made a BRIEF comeback at 41 but, I wasn't being thrown across ice on razor sharp blades.

Savchenko is the freaking Terminator. Absolute machine! It might just be doable -- under the new rules she no longer has to risk injuring herself by going for riskier elements.

What a QUEEN!!!

This seems highly unlikely - but I think in 2014 we all laughed at the idea that she would ever be competitive with a new partner, let alone actually win OGM with him. So she's definitely capable of surprising us again.

Aljona: 'I'll be back'

Thanks for putting that image in my head! :agree:

2022: Aljona Savchenko - competing with Bruno Massot at the Olympics
Aljona Savchenko - (assistant) coach of Alexa & Chris Knierim competing at the Olympics

On a more serious note I find it so heart-warming that she said she wants to try it but only with Bruno, no-one else. They are really a perfect match on the ice.

.................................................................................

"We can win one more time. Or get a medal. When you can win once, you can win also another time. It's not the biggest goal but it's a possibility. And when there's a possibility, why not?"
One thing is certain, she would attempt it only with her current partner Bruno Massot: "If, then only with Bruno. If not, then not at all. There are also other beautiful possibilities in life - to have a child, a family, or to do something else."
(...)
"It's natural to want to have a child."(...) "You can also have a baby and then make a comeback. When you've been training for 30 years, a break for 1 or 2 year/s does not matter."

Looks like there will be another part soon.

They looked at Pairs field and thought that at this rate there will be no competition left by 2022 so why not give it a shot. Good thinking.

S/H not competition? :disapp: These next four years they can just rest their bodies and make sure Sui doesn't get injured, and they'll still be the favorite.

On a different note though, I'll look forward to her coming back! Her career is something that has always impressed me and will continue to. :cheer:

Just saw Chusovitina got a Silver Medal on the Vault in the Asian Games, she is 43 and aiming to compete in Tokyo Olympics, nothing is impossible, and certainly possible for Aliona.

I hope she does come back. There are examples of other 'pair girls' making come backs in the same age range. Regardless, I hope she will just continue to skate with Bruno and hoping his back holds up. Bruno currently has other things on his mind though.

Wouldn't it be fantastic if she would win an Olympic medal at the age of 38? I'd love to see that. You never know....Nothing she does surprises me.
