A discussion on another thread about second hand dresses has me wondering which other skaters have passed on dresses or costumes in the past. We were discussing Alina Zagitova, who last season was using a dress previously worn by Evgenia Medvedeva.

So who else shared or passed on dresses? Are there examples of men doing it? How about pairs or Ice Dance? Do you think it's a good or bad thing or couldn't care less. I swear someone wore one of Sasha Cohen's dresses a few years back. Please share some examples and huge bonus points for linking photos!!

Actually the story of Ashley Wagner using Marissa Castelli's dress in the 2015-16 season and how it ended up being her "lucky dress" happened long before Medvedeva/Zagitova. So there's one.


ETA: Also, SOI regularly reuses their costumes designed by legend Jef Billings over the years. :agree:

She needed a different dress because she revived an old program in response to the death of her mother.

It was an old tradition to share costumes from Yamada coach's team. When Mao wore the costume passing down from Midori, she said it gave her power and she could perform well in Midori's costume. It's not just between Midori and Mao, I think sometimes the costumes have been passing down even to Kanako:

So it was common sharing costumes between Mao and Kanako (even high school jacket), or Mao and her older sister Mai. I believe Kanako's costumes have also been passing down to other younger skaters in Yamada's team, so IIRC Matsuda Yura and even Mako Yamashita (her most recent SP dress at JGP-Salsburg) have been wearing costumes from Kanako.

NB: it's less likely that costumes are shared between genders, but I think the exception was from the link above, when Kozuka wore the pink tank top, which was rumoured to be from Mao! I think it was from during The ICE show a couple of years ago, when Kozuka left behind his costumes too many times and got punishment to dress up like that...)

You meant that the other thread's discussion several hours ago all started b/c Zagitova wore Medvedeva's dress, I believe?

AFAIK, you were not attempting to say that the phenomenon of wearing someone's else costume all started with Zagitova and Medvedeva.

Just mentioning b/c I think someone misunderstood you.

BTW, Marissa Castelli's dress was worn by Kirsten Moore-Towers as well as Ashley Wagner.
