Should ISU take a stance on Yagudin's insults against other athletes?

I am sorry but olympics medals aren't awarded according to "personal worth"

Sure, but all Olympians should be people with class and RESPECT for ANY other athletes. Olympians should be a ROLE MODEL for younger generations of atheltes. Yagudin is not a role model by any means and he brings shame upon his Olympic gold medal. He is also a public figure and should restrain from expressing such disturbing opinions publicly. And since you insist it's none of our business who and why comments for the "pervyy kanal" then I say this - with all my heart I HOPE they fire him because that is what he deserves.

Also I'm sad Tarasova won't say anything. She is such a presence in the community, surely her criticism of such shameful behavior would be most welcomed.

They could but it's pointless.
The best ISU could do here - to appeal to IOC to strip him off the OGM-2002.

And who would be the main beneficiary?

Ridiculous. Why would they do that? Alexei was the best in that competition and deserved to be OG champion. Don't make joke from this case.

Other comments are not related to his job, he never said any of this while commentating on ISU competitions
I don't understand the outrage

Even if you take out his insults (and you shouldn't given his position), the comments about the lack of quads from certain skaters are extremely rude and unsportsmanlike.

The petition post also mentions a number of other violations of professional ethics from him while commentating including intentionally mispronounced names and profanity.

TATs greatest achievement as a coach was coaching Alexei yagudin to the 2002 Winter Olympic gold medal for men's figure skating. I cannot see her ripping into the athlete used to coach that brought her to her greatest heights as a coach.

Agree with everything said above and slightly off topic but why doesn’t anyone say anything about Adam’s post?? How is it ok to be an Olympian and public figure and use the language he did??

1) He's using ISU international competitions as a platform for these kind of comments, insults and harassment. In a way ISU's lack of response towards this, makes it seems like they are okay with a commentator actively harassing athletes. It should be ISU's interest to defend skaters first.

2) He made many of these comments in non-russian international social media platforms such as Instagram and Youtube (since Pervy Kanal does upload videos there as well)

3) He's insulting athletes from other federations, showing unsportsmanlike conduct among the other things.

4) Mind you the petition started from russian people in the first place.

1. No,he isn't. He isn't employed by the ISU, nor competes at ISU organized events, he isn't using ISU in anything.

2. Please, tell IG moderation team and get him off IG, the more people we have at vk,telegram and ok the better  I fully support your fight against Yagudin's IG account

3. He hasn't been a sportsmen for a long time now. So what? If 1TV is fine with him insulting athletes, that isn't your concern either, you can demand 1TV taken of air in your country anytime you want.

4. Yeah, so leave it up to that ~3000 people (I hope most of them are Russians) to demand their own tax money not being spent on Yagudin.

Olympic champions should qualify for Olympics fair and square and win the Olympics fairly. Winning Olympics isn't signing lifetime contract to be a "role model" He won that competition fairly, so it can't be taken away from him regardless of what he does.

It is not the first time commentators made rude or inappropriate comments

"Other violations" is non-complimentary comments towards certain skaters, nothing new. He wasn't the first one and won't be the last
As for the intentionally misprouncing names, i'm afraid every single commentator fits, it is quite dumb to assume the intention
They don't provide an example of "profanity" so i can't comment on this

Tarasova's achievements:

Oksana Grishuk / Evgeni Platov. Led them to win 1997 World Championship and an Olympic gold medal in 1998.

Natalia Bestemianova / Andrei Bukin. Led them to four World Championships and the Olympic gold medal in 1988.

Marina Klimova / Sergey Ponomarenko. Led them to 1992 World Championships and the Olympic gold medal.

Ilia Kulik. Was also his choreographer. Led him to win the Olympic gold medal in 1998.

Irina Rodnina / Alexander Zaitsev. Led them to win four World Championships 1975-1978 and two Olympic gold medals in 1976 and 1980.

Alexei Yagudin. Coached and choreographed him from 1998 to his retirement in 2003. Led him to three World Championships and an Olympic gold medal in 2002.

Shizuka Arakawa. Led her to win the World Championships in 2004 and Olympic gold medal in 2006 together with Nikolai Morozov.

;)

He's using ISU competitions exposure to make these comments on a public stage, that is a fact not an opinion. One thing is to keep that stuff on your own, another is to promote it to a worldwide audience (if you consider Pervy Kanal presence on Youtube) during ISU competitions while attending at these events.

This might be accepted in Russia but it is NOT outside! and the moment he says such things on international platforms or international events, he crossed russian borders my friend.

If ISU doesn't support this behaviour against their very own athletes, they should not let him attending these events, in order to do this you might not even need ISU as a whole, as the single federations like Skate Canada, USFSA could decide not to invite him.

But i'd like to see a statement specifically from ISU as hatred and harassment should not be accepted in any competition especially in regards to private matters not related to the competition such as human sexuality. Then it'd be nice to see the single federations speaking up in defense of their athletes.

I want to point out that since the very first post i did put the question on ISU rather than Pervy Kanal, as these are insults against international athletes done on international platforms and while attending international events.

Many skaters, active or former, did what could be called "extremely rude comments" or "violation of profesional ethics" on other skaters, even bodyshaming could be found, and also commentators all over the world. As for the mispronounced names, I don't know how to recognize intentional from unintentional mispronounciation reliably.

It should be said that I can make my own portrait of a character based on how the person speaks about the others, but I don't like the idea of any institution deciding about allowed and prohibited terms. Also usually in similar campaigns against what other people say I usually see other people who often do not pull their punches as well.

It should be also said that I'm not much a fan of Yagudin, rather the opposite.

These comments are absolutely normal

Where is homophobia and fat shaming in those comments ?

"When will you all die" "earths mistakes". "Adam rippon is the same as the coronavirus". liking the F.... comment.
don't tell me thats not homophobic

Yeah I don't think he should be fired for commenting on the sport - not unless a lot of others aren't right along with him (and I do want them to disappear). But I do think this recent comment about Rippon needs to have consequences.

Wait, I’m confused. Did he or did he not make his comments under the thumb of ISU? Was he actually in Canada or the US commentating for Skate Canada or Skate America and were these comments aired on North American television? (Using North America as an obvious example.) That will be my only problem with it. If he’s posting on social media or saying these things while commentating under a RUSSIAN channel then I’m not understanding how ISU should get involved. That’s Russia’s business. He was even nasty about my boy Kolyada. At worst, he should be fired from commentating for that particular channel. Stripping him from his Olympic medal is ridiculous and doesn’t change the fact that he won.

I’m all for someone publicly showing their ass. This way you know full well what you’re dealing with. I don’t like surprises. I also don’t think skaters need to be “protected” from rudeness. Please . It’s action they need to be protected from, not words. Unless, of course, Yagudin is the president of the ISU. And he’s not. But I’m willing to bet good money that people with real power think similar thoughts. They just keep it to themselves, but they’re in a position to do things that skaters really need to be protected from.

....Which is worse?

For me, publically saying it is much worse.
People are entitled to have thoughts - nobody should be punished for their thoughts.
But acting on those thoughts and being malicious should be punished.
It's like saying "Which is worse; thinking that somebody should die or sending a death threat"
Sending a death threat is much worse.

I agree. An Olympic medal is about who performs the best in the two Olympic programs - nothing more, nothing less. Nothing else about their personality or what they do outside of those two performances should be taken into account. Same with world championships / grand prix series. However, if he was still competing I'd except an official warning for the Jason Brown comments, and then a temporary suspension from ISU competitions for the Rippon comments, as it is not okay to say "When will you all die" - under any circumstance.
Since he is not competing, I recommend an official warning then potentially ban of commentary - but that would have to come from the Russian television. The ISU could recommend this to the Russian media.

In the 19th century they could challenge each other to a duel. In my younger years when I read a book orf saw a period drama where duel was involved, I thought to myself "those people were insane". In these years, I'm starting to think the duel is not so bad institution, people would not exchange so much insults via social network and a lot less people would second wth their proposals about consequences.

So, would you rather see them dealing each other by pistols or swords?

What does "Using ISU exposure" mean?! anybody who is talking about ISU competitions is using ISU exposure,so what?

How are Canadian or American Federations going him to keep from being on mic? this isn't 60s anymore, he can comment about these events from Moscow just fine. I doubt ISU has any say who 1TV puts on the mic at these competitions. Sure, If contract doesn't force ISU to give pass whoever 1TV sends they can ban Yagudin, but that ain't going to change much.

Regarding to international platforms, I am all for it, the sooner we have more competition to likes of Youtube and Instagram, the better, so ban him (and many more too, please)
