Skate America Hotels

I have a question about hotels for Skate America. All the close ones are booked it appears. Does anyone know if they are truly booked, or will be opening up at a later date for a jacked up price? I just bought my ticket, but I don't want to be sleeping in my car. I've been to one other Skate America in Lake Placid and LOVED it. Rooms were not a problem that year. I see nothing about official hotels or accomodations. I'm wondering if I should just take something available, but a distance, or wait for the main ones to open up. Communication seems a bit spotty.

The Cambria Hotel Lakeside on Saranac Avenue is very nice and is about 1.5 miles from the arena. Right now, it's $155 plus tax for November 14-17, around $525 total for three nights. If you wanted something closer, The Devlin on Main Street is about a 10-minute walk and weekend rates are just under $200 currently. Both of these are cancellable rates so you could make a reservation, then wait to see if other choices open up closer to the event.

I haven't seen this confirmed, but the Crowne Plaza on Olympic Drive is usually the official hotel for skating events.

FWIW, in case of interest to anyone not familiar with Lake Placid (unlike you and OP):
YMMV, but a possible consideration for spectators (depending on one's level of fitness/mobility) could be that this hotel is up a hill from the nearby arena.
For some, the elevation would be an absolute non-issue. Just my own thought process, but for me, the "climb" is enough of a cardio challenge that for a multi-night stay, I probably would forego the lovely views and choose a different hotel. Again, YMMV.

I can second this. I stayed there years ago for a Skate America and it is definitely not for people (if walking) with mobility issues, including cardio. It's a step one!

Good point about the steep hill for the Crowne Plaza. I hadn’t considered that but it could be a limiting factor for some.

The Hampton Inn Lake Placid is a very nice hotel within easy walking distance. I booked it for a reasonable rate before the announcement that LP was the location but since then, rates have more than doubled. That’s one to keep in mind if the rates drop as the event gets closer.
