OTTAWA, ON (July 5, 2023) – Skate Canada is excited to announce the 30 athletes that will make up its National Team for the 2023-2024 season. The team will include four men, four women, four pair teams, as well as seven ice dance teams. While many members are returning from last season including 2023 ISU World Figure Skating Championships bronze medalists Piper Gilles & Paul Poirier, eight athletes will be making the team for the first time.

To be named to the National Team, a skater must finish in the top three in the senior men, women, pair and ice dance disciplines at the 2023 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships and/or assigned to a 2023 ISU Grand Prix event at the ISU Grand Prix Selection meeting and must be competing during the 2023-2024 season.

Three teams have also been selected as part of Skate Canada’s Synchronized Skating National Team. This team comprises the synchronized skating teams that finished in the top three in the senior discipline at the 2023 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships.

Fabbri / Ayer were Canadian Jr silver medalists in 2019 and were ninth at Junior Worlds that year, their first year together as a couple. They were sixth at 2020 Nats and 7th in 2022. They made their senior debut at the 2019 Warsaw Cup, where they were sixth. They made their GP debut last year at MK John Wilson, where they were 8th. He got injured, though, and needed soldier surgery, so they sat out the rest of the season.

Lanaghan was born in GB. Razguljevs's parents were born in Latvia. His father was a former Ice Dancer. Dmitre was born in the US but moved to Canada when he was young. They have been paired since the 17/18 season and have been anywhere from eighth to fifth at Canadian Nationals together. They have competed in several Challenger competitions, placing as high as fourth but no international medals. They made their GP debut last year at GP France, placing tenth.

Dmitre father is coach of Gilles / Poirier... Dmitre is dating his skating partner and they have colorful programs... I like them alot.

Gilles / Poirier may have stiff competition between them and two other Canadian teams... It will be a fun season.

Indeed... and looking at how they scored back then, it shows the potential as they ranked among of very special group of ice dancers. They are one of my favourite ice dance team. Note that Fabbri is only 20 still. Paul is 25 and that's why they have been skating seniors since then. I hope they keep developing.

Thank you! I haven't remembered either, probably because I wasn't watching ice dance until last season!
