Skaters with ugly hairdos

Mullets are never becoming. Russia must be thirty years behind the West it mullets are considered fashionable. I must say it is the only hairstyle that looks good on Plushenko. The Gods of beauty didn't grace him.
 
Oksana Domnina's overly bleached hair, drawn back so tightly that at some angles, she actually looks bald.

Daisuke Takahashi's too-long, teased mop. Looks so untidy.

Jialang Wu's hair looks like a sea urchin.

Carolina Kostner's hair (and her makeup as well) at the GP events. Someone got hold of her and fixed it for the GPF.
 
I always thought Tatiano Totmianina's hair was cut or styled too severely, making her look boyish.
And also, Marina Petrova never seemed to have a style that was very attractive.
 
What's with Carolina Kostner's hairdo? I wouldn't say it looks awful but it looks a little messy, just tied up like that. I don't know, but that often crosses my mind when she takes the ice. It's only my opinion.....:unsure:

I did not notice Caro had bad hairstyle in GP events. Her costumes are extremely beautiful so as she herself. I thought that her makeup, esp. mascara, might have been a bit heavy in Russia, but still looked pretty at a distance. I recall her at the Olympic LP, in which she was stunningly beautiful with silver eye shadow that went so well with the silver costume.

At Olympics, I thought that Daisuke's long hair and beard did not match his LP music and light purple, fluffy costume, even though these looked very nice in his daily cloths. But this year, I feel that his long hair goes well with his hiphop music, black SP costume, and RJ music. So it does not bother me now.

I find Nana Takeda's hair a bit distracting, althoguh it is such a cute hair style. I wonder it does not bother her when she spins. I personally cannot do turns in my ballet classes without at least upper half of my hair tied.

I recall that Miki used to wear very heavy makeup last season, which became lighter since 2007 Worlds. It seems that Morosov has dictated all of them.
I personally liked her makeup better during 2004-2006 when she was doing herself.

I am not fond of Fumie's make up. She often has a very large, sparkling thing besides her left or right eye. I do not think that she needs it.

Sasha always had very nice hairdo, makeup, and dresses. She is very fashionable.

Finally, I feel that Shizuka has become so much more sophisticated in her choices of costumes, makeup and hairstyle after she turned pro.

You know who is the queen of all bad hairstyles?

Julia Sebestyen; she has a pretty enough face but all her hairstyles as of recent. Well since I could remember well; grandma anybody?

I admire her for trying something slightly different with her hair and in all truth this isn't a terrible style for her. :)

As far as the men go the most consistantly bad hair cut goes to Evgeni Plushenko. Though the longer mullet looks fine on him such as here:

Most of us do not look as nice in a mullet but with his head and face he wears it well. :)
 
Another hungarian, Viktoria Pavuk, has always such a messy hairdo. It lookes so disturbing when she skates. But her skating quality is quite :disapp: anyway.
 
For now I just can't get over that thing on Oksana Domnina head this season for the FD (looks like the behind of a poodle). I would also put Weir's bowl cut as a contender.
 
I'm sorry but Weir has almost the same haircut Irina used to have some seasons ago. too feminine, I just don't like it.

re. Davydov: WHEN did he do THAT?? WHY did he do that??

re. Petrova: I think she just had "problem hair". I always got the impression that if the humidity was too high in the rink, it would "foosh up" like those Asian noodles you put in oil and they expand to about 5 times their size. Not much you can do with that.

re. Totmiannina: Yeah, she did rather have that "Slavic Androgynous Android" look going, much like Russian gymnanst Svetlana Khorkina.

re. Pavuk: The hair was not nearly as objectionable as the blue eyeliner; I do hope she's not still doing that.

re. Takahashi: That "punk mop" IS just a bit much. And you can take one look at it and just IMAGINE how many ounces of goopy hair product is in there, which kinda grosses me out.

On that note: When they had a feature on Lambiel at -- I believe it was Bompard -- they showed a clip of him with a fringed outfit and this rather odd ratted out hair, which prompted my cousin to say "What, just because he has fringe on his costume, he has to have it on his HEAD, too??" :laugh:

Posters are not performing on international TV.

Believe it or not, looks do count in figure skating competitions. Most of the judges are getting on in years and they probably have a very conservative viewpoint when it comes to how polished a skater looks. "Punk" looks may create a negative impression that could cause some of the older judges to give a slightly lower score than they might have to a skater who looks well-groomed.

Most skaters are nicely turned out, others are :scratch:.

I thought Carolina Kostner did no justice to her own good looks during the GP series. She had her hair thrown up any which way, with zigzag parts and little "brushes" of hair sticking up in the air, and she WAY overdid the eye makeup, with too-black eyeliner and shadow, and eyebrows painted on. I guess the Italian federation sent out a hairdresser and makeup artist for her Torino appearance, because she looked lovely there, with neatly-done hair and flattering makeup.

So attention to detail can make a difference.

BTW, Maria Petrova had very curly hair that completely frizzed up. One season, I think it was 2005-2006, she must have had her hair straightened, because it looked much, much better. But she let it grow out and last season, her hair was back to being frizzy.

Well, I do not think that it is inappropriate to discuss the outer appearance. We do it in our everyday lives (well, at least I do) - why not here? As long as we do not bash skaters because of their looks or judge them by their looks and not by the skating - we cannot do much harm. But the hair-do, or the costume, cannot really upset me. Skaters are different people with different styles and different hair-dos and costumes that fit them. For that matter:

I absolutely love Takahashi's hair... It looks amazing and it is just different from most skaters, but especially from the Asian ones. I cannot even tell the Chinese guys in pairs apart - they all look the same and not because they are Asian. Lots of Asian guys at my university have similar hair-dos. Why shouldn't Takahashi skate with hair like that? He is a young guy, who probably loves going out and partying like nearly every kid his age. Adore his costumes too...

I also think that Johnny's hair suits his style - he seems like an artist, I could not imagine Johnny with Daisuke's hair or Joubert's successfull-lawyer-cut. But Joubert's hair-do suits him, his skating-style and how he presents himself. Plushenko looks great with his hair, too - most people could not wear it, but he can. ;)

Agree on both counts.

Eventually, Tatiano grew hers out (thankfully).

The person who, IMO had soem poor coifs was Maria Petrova. I remember one program where she had her hair in bunches or dog ears, with it frizzed to the max to gain the theme of their country type costume...........it was atrocious. :eek::eek: Further, I never like her white skate covers.

Ben Ferreira - he looked to have so much hair spray in his hair, he would help reduce the climate change risk by stopping to release the stuff from an aerosol can (and I saw him in person).:eek::eek:

Zhangs don't have much style in hair either.........................

I agree with most of the things you said. I love Johnny's hair style this season. I do not know if it is because of his hair style, brilliant costumes, or the overall skating, but I find him very artistic and beautiful this season. I mean, yes, he always did; but to me, this season and 2005-6, in particular. His sensitive quality shines so much that I cannot have my eyes away from him when he takes on ice.
I also like Takahashi's hair style, especially because it suits his SP program this season.

I like Johnny's hairstyle this year, too. I think he looks much handsomer. The only skater who's hairstyle when skating I would like to see changed is Kimmie Meissner's. It is too severe & elderly looking. She needs bangs or curls as she really is a pretty girl. Just need a softer look.
