Skating with Celebrities: Coming Winter 2006 to FOX

Thanks Red Dog, I have been wondering when they were going to show it. I believe that have finished taping. It should be an interesting show for lovers of figure skating.

The show is premiering on Jan. 18, 2006 from 9-10PM EST after American Idol, and then moving to its regular slot on Mondays at 8PM on Jan. 23. It'll be the lead-in to 24. According to the Blades on Ice site, the finale is 2 hours long. The exact dates for the last 4 episodes are unclear, because the press releases I've read says the show will run until March 6, while if they aired the six episodes in a row, it'd end Feb. 20, so I'm going to guess there will be a break or two in there.

Kurt told me that the show was a lot of fun, and a lot of work...the taping I saw was interesting. Better than I would have expected it to be. Should be a fun show, if not the highest level skating...

Teenes,

Isn't February a sweeps month for tv? Means they'll shelve it and show something guaranteed to get better ratings!

Seems likely, doesn't it? Odd that they're even scheduling it around then. I'm not sure of the exact dates for February sweeps, but I'm pretty sure it's not the whole month. So they're probably airing 3 episodes in January (Jan. 18, 23, and 30), probably airing the finale on March 6, and then the remaining two episodes are probably around the beginning or end of February, or one at the beginning, one at the end. That would be my guess.

Though I doubt they're preempting 24 for Feb. sweeps, so I'm curious what they'll put in that hour during sweeps.

Well they'll get a good lead in with American Idol but that first episode better be good or nobody will watch it later. So who are the judges? It said Dorothy Hamill but who else?

If they're doing pairs skating, it's pretty clear that it's down to either John Zimmerman or Lloyd Eisler. I know I wouldn't want a guy who doesn't know how to skate (or Scott Hamilton, who's like 5'4'') lifting me! And Z and E both have the pairs experience. JMO though.

There's a 'Sneak Peek' of Skating with Celebrities in the latest issue of Int'l Figure Skating.

Among the photos is one of Nancy Kerrigan in male drag with Dave Coulier.

I can't wait to watch this! It's good that AI will lead into the first episode. I don't think this show will go over that well with people who aren't skating fans, tho.

I saw a picture of Lloyd Eisler doing a pair spiral with Christy Swanson, looked like Christy had good form in it.

Fox is now showing the previews, as most of you probably know, and they sure seem to be emphasizing the "wipeouts", rather like American Idol advertises using the worst singers they can find. This rather got me thinking -- they're actually going to do LIFTS?? If I were Nancy Kerrigan, or any of the other lady skaters involved in this, there is NO WAY on earth I would have a celebrity with a crash course in skating lift me ONE INCH off that ice. And if I were one of the lady celebrities, there is no way on earth I would allow Scott Hamilton to try and pick me up, either.....

I saw a preview for the show for the first time today, while I was watching the OC. Looks like it will be a fun show, one way or the other.

And yes, I know, World class pairs can have accidents, too. Remember Tatiana T's fall as Skate America last year? And that was WITH someone who knew what they were doing. Why tempt fate?? Not that I'm expecting anyone on this show to be doing lifts of that difficulty level, but I still think some of these people are just asking for trouble. Naturally I will be glued to my set.....

I am getting old. I have no idea who these 'celebs' are.

Trust me Joe. It's not because you're old. None of the celebs have really ever done anything of significance. The higher class celebs never agree to this kind of thing.

Maybe Nancy picks up Dave? :D Though Dave Coulier is an extremely competent skater, and not just b/c he's Canadian. He plays in lots of celebrity hockey games and played hockey as a child. I don't think Nancy has anything to worry about with him lifting her.

I'm more interested in Todd Bridges and Jenny Meno. I'd like to see what she can do with him. I don't see Todd coming into this as a competent skater, though I think FOX picked him b/c of his former notoriety and troubles. I'm just curious to see how he b/c I haven't seen him since Different Strokes.

I don't think Scott lifts anyway or skates in this show. He is hosting. However, he did lift Katia in his sweet Chaplin segment on his 1997 TV special. He did pretty well with it. He is small-but evidently strong. It wasn't much of a lift, obviously, since they are nearly the same height--but it surprised me that he did it at all.
