Slutskaya to compete in Calgary - reports from russian press

well, wow. I think we might actually have a competition on our hands here.

Now if only Shizuka will commit.

Honestly? I hope she stays home. I like her fine, but I've really seen enough.

I was so looking forward to her not being there. I wanted to see some new skates on the podium.

Me too! Time to move on a make baby! I really wanted to see some new talent up there too. Oh well, like a previous poster said, " This may be a real compition now" Let the games begin!

I'm sure that she needs the money that would come with a medal finish at Worlds. Also, this keeps her on the 'money-making' circuit - invitation to COI, Marshalls Spring Cheesefest, etc. etc.

The mother's doctor bills aren't going to go away. I don't blame Irina. Good for her. MAY SHE WIN WORLDS!

I heard that the ISU rules don't allow the introduction of someone not listed as either on the team or as an alternate, at this late date. Does anyone know if this is true?

Good for her, but like "flying camel" said, it would be nice to see some new skaters on the podium...

Why are some people so intent...so desirous...of Irina not being at Worlds? Scared that that's the only way that a 'not-quite-winner' (a.k.a. 'loser') can win???

Next year, Mao can/will skate at Worlds...so perhaps the 'loser' or 'losers' in question are afraid that Calgary may be their last chance to win Worlds Gold??? :chorus: :chorus: :chorus: :chorus: :chorus:

IRINA #1!!!!!!

Well, if the newcomers want to get on the podium, let them beat Irina. Irina is the reigning world champion. Want her crown? Take it from her!

MM :)

Seems like Irina was a "not quite a winner" at her last competition...here's hoping Shizuka does go to worlds so we can see another showdown of the titans!

+1

If it can't be fresh meat on the podium, let the vets duke it out one last time for us-- if Irina, Sasha, and Shizuka all show up, it should be one heck of a bloody battle.

Mr. Piseyeve should be able to swing it. He has clout.

Aside from all this, I hope she does appear. She's a first rate competitive skater and one should not judge her on one lapse of great skating.

Joe

This definitely make the worlds a more interesting competetion!
