Sophie Joline von Felten

What an incredible performance from Sophie at JGP Ankara! I was sooo impressed by everything. The program is emotional and heartbreaking, and Sophie skates it beautifully. Her skating looked fast, flawless, and so connected to the music. I was so happy to see her component score has increased. Fingers crossed for the free skate!!

Congratulations to Sophie on the SP personal best! It’s great to see her getting more credit in the components too, and Ted & Mark were decidedly impressed with her artistic expression of her genuine emotions. I admit to shedding a few tears while watching her tribute program, but my feelings were mixed with happiness at witnessing her courage and growth as a skater.

Sophie's FP - got the first 3A landed, second 3A and the 4S were more troublesome, but it's a big ask at her first JGP of the season, and I imagine she'll get them done in time:

Sophie Joline's warm up group will be on the ice at JGP Gdansk in about 20 minutes. I am very tired, but I intend to stay up long enough to watch Sophie. I started liking her when she was a creative kid skating for Switzerland. Never guessed she would decide to skate for the U.S., let alone start doing quads. I do remember that back then she repeatedly over rotated her jumps, and I felt very clever to suggest that maybe she needed to do quads instead. But I don't really know much about what quad potential looks like. Wonder if she was already working on quads, and that caused the over rotation on the triples. Anyway, Sophie has become one of my favorite juniors and I'm rooting for her at Gdansk.

I’m so tired of the ISU underscoring Sophie. That 3A was fully rotated. Even Ted & Mark said so. And yet they gave her a Q. I won’t argue with the rotation call on the 3T, but that still shouldn’t reduce her score so much. And they dropped her components. She skated beautifully and her short program was 11 points lower than her last short program. I just hope Sophie isn’t discouraged.

I have to say, I don't enjoy the seeming uneven treatment of Sophie from event to event. I still get upset when I think about her WC short program. Of course an under on the 3T doesn't help (and the q on the 3A that I don't agree with), but dropping from season's best of 68 to 58 for that? I thought it should be no worse than low 60s.

Apart from that, I thought Sophie's performance was emotional and beautiful. Her step sequence made me cry.

Sophie's amazing FP at Gdansk.

She was amazing 🤩
Miffed her ultra-C elements seemed to be sidelined. She has developed and performed as an accomplished artist in her own right, attention to musical detail, hand gestures and upper body movement well expressed, all sort of overlooked because imv she comes across as an aggressive skater; her determination is never couched or hidden which I admire but may be unappealing to others.
Her FS at Solidarity was the bomb 🥰 Congratulations!
🎈🎉

Best wishes to Sophie today and congratulations on her debut at senior Nationals! She gets to do the "easy" senior layout with 3A on its own now :)
