Press Release - Cancellation of Trophee Bompard

Media Advisory

The Minister of Interior Affairs of France, Bernard Cazeneuve, and the Mayor of Bordeaux, Alain Juppe, have informed the French Figure Skating Federation (FFSG) that the competition at the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating event ”Trophee Eric Bompard 2015” in Bordeaux has to be cancelled due to the state of emergency and national mourning days in France.

The International Skating Union (ISU) has acknowledged the decision.

The International Skating Union and the French Figure Skating Federation express their deepest sympathy to the victims of the despicable terrorist attacks in Paris on November 13.

Shoma is in.

Likely to go to the final:
Fernandez COR 1st-4th place
Jin and Yuzu and Kovtun at NHK 1st-3rd place


Wild Card:
Jason at NHK can he manage a 1st or 2nd place? if so, he will push out Chan, if not Chan is in the final.
Even More Wild Card:
Adam and Grant a win at COR will put them in and a silver will force a tiebreaker with Chan.

I guess this event has to be put into perspective. This tragedy is just one in a series of very troubling chain of attacks happening around the world and all connected. While it is nice to shout "the life goes on" from one's comfy sofa in front of computer screen, I would not be comfortable my friends and family's lives be endangered because of qualification to GPF.

Here, in London, Gatwick airport has just being evacuated because of the bomb threat.

Also conducting sporting/arts events at a time of national mourning is simply of poor taste.

Someone made the suggestion in another thread to let all the medalists of the GP series skate at GPF. I like this idea, but that would probably cause organizational issues to the Spanish federation.

There's another way: move all skaters to CoR and maybe NHK, for them to skate only the LP.

One of the opportunities to conduct Free Skating could be to make quick arrangements with one of the skating rinks in nearby European counties, to skate Free Programs during next week (the nearest possible is better to make it easier to transport all the skaters, couches and officials to another country).

One of the possible skating rinks could be Palavela in Turin (Italy), or skating rink "Palasesto" in Milan (where Lombardia Trophy was recently held). They have relatively low workload, therefore they possibly could provide their facilites for one day.

It would have been nice if only all the skaters and their teams could have the safe place to live and train before the competition, in Europe. Do you realise how exhausting it would be for most of them to fly home and then get back for the sake of LP? I have no idea what they would do- maybe settle the venue the week after the NHK- but that would mean that some of skaters would have less time prior to GPF.
