The Nordics Open 2026 | Jan 28 - Feb 1

She was near perfect.
She had the exactly the same start at Euros, and I thought she was going to nail it there like she did last year. And then came the uncharismatic mistake on the toeloop that is usual very solid. I think she made sure she wasn´t going to make the same mistake once again, and very impressive how she held on the axel sequence after fighting for the toeloop!

Sorry for Josefin but Mia medals. It is hard when you like everybody to be happy for somebody at the same time being sorry for someone else. I am afraid she is not consistent enough this season to get the WC minimums.

Josefins TES is very low, it might even put her behind Anita, depending on her component score. They can´t give her too high either because of the mistakes.

Only one mistake by Olivia, otherwise excellent. That might be enough to just put her ahead of Mia, but she might be 2nd int he FS

Iida popped a jump which was supposed to be a combo and then made a 3-jump combo to a place where not planned. That girl can count. I wonder if she thought the board was too near. It has happened to her before.

Yes, I think she just wanted the senior title and also ranking points.
I don´t think she can earn more ranking points on international senior competitions though this season, I think she has maxed out. I´m not entirely sure, at best she will gain only a few points.

I think it is now obvious Iida will go also to WC. It is quite interesting they have her also on the top of JWC selection, though the Fed's rule says "one score must be from international junior competition of the season". But I understand, they may want to send her because she is the only one who has potential to be on the top10 - but then the rule also says, local fed's, that not same skater to JWC and WC. But there are ifs on the rules.

Ok, I have not studied how it works but I learn by reading your messages.

I don´t always understand the ranking system entirely, but from international senior competitions the maximum points achieved is like 600 points or something in a season, but also only the two best combined score count. Mia has also pretty much ranked out on those points this season, so she won´t gain anything either here. Only points that can be earned outside that are the Championships and GP etc. And I assume Olympics, but for Championships you can also earn only points from 3 Championships in the last 3 seasons or something, so to gain anything new you need to beat the points you got earlier from an Championships if you already gained from 3 the last seasons, like a higher placement etc.
If your 3rd Championship is from 3 seasons ago, it counts only like 70% av the value, so often you will earn something from a new Championship but not the full value. The system is complicated. Best way to understand it is to look at Skatingscores page for me personally. There you will see points between parentheses, that means it would normally have been the point you would earned in a competition, but it doesn´t count in your ranking because you have maxed out on the points. If you look at the point system, getting into GP and earning points really benefit you on the world ranking as you can earn additional points there outside the international senior competitions and the Championship points. Also same with JGP.

To try to explain this better, only way Mia could have earned more points is if she had won today. She already has 250 points counting from Cup of Innsbruck this season (gold), and then her 2nd other best points are 243p from the bronze at Warsaw Cup. Challengers are worth more points, it´s 300, 275 for 2nd and 243 for 3rd place (don´t ask he how they came up with 243p and not 250p). For events like Nordics that are not Challengers, the maximum point you can achieve for silver medal is 225 points, so that is worth less for her then the 243 she already has counting. But a win would have earned her 250 points, so she would have gained a wooping 7 points more if she won :ROFLMAO: To maximum on your international points, the best would be to win like two Challengers, that would earn you 300 + 300.. Though that isn´t easy. She can still add the 7 points though, if she would win Sonja Henie Trophy or something. That is the only competition she plans to do before Worlds.

Let's hope we will see more men in Tampere next year. I think some may come there to get experience as pre-worlds event though the arena is not the same.
