Tonya's latest incident

Absolutely pathetic, but what can one expect from a low-life like Tonya Harding?
According to the report, she even gave a false report to the police about the incident - stating that she was being attacked by two men - when it seems that she was the one who attacked her latest boyfriend.

I've long stopped feeling empathy for this woman. She's never going to grow up emotionally, and she will forever be in trouble with the law and/or with her latest love interest.

Yes, it's a shame, but Ms. Harding is 35 years old now, for Heaven's sake. She is an adult (supposedly) and as such she has to take responsibility for her own behavior. It's time for her to stop blaming everybody for her fate in life and GROW UP.
 
I think sadly that TH is probably the poster child for some undignosed mental illness. Only some sort of mental shortcoming could explain why she continues to act and and not understand that no matter what she does it's going to be scrutinized in public. I just send out prayers for the poor woman. She needs some kind of help and in a bad way. I am just so sorry because I loved her skating...yet another great performer whose deamons took them away from greatness, too sad
 
Dear God- what's new. But you really can't teach an "old dog" new "tricks", right? She's got some issues, and it seems like they haven't been (or can't be) worked out.

I wonder if those blows to the head in the ring have exascerbated her already thin hold to reality.
 
Because someone grew up in a trailer (etc) does not inherently mean they are a low life. Tonya had, I stress, had a gift to lift herself. She had support and guidance. She made her choices all the way and as a young teenager poorly She chooses her lifestyle today.

35 years old and continues to make poor choices...

Let's remember her and the triple axel at US Nats, the rest of her life, well that's Tonya.

I think that you might be correct that there is some form of mental illness.

ITA, Orchid. I used to feel badly for Tonya, but it is obvious that the girl has issues. It almost seems as if she wants the attention that skating gave her back...and she will do absolutely anything to get it. How very unfortunate that is. She was a superb skater and I will always look back on her 1990-1991 season with very fond memories. The sky was the limit for her after the Munich Worlds....too bad she made so many poor decisions afterward.

Thank you for you post. It's easy to look down on or hate someone such as Harding; it's much more difficult to try to find a way to understand her. Sk8m8, your and certain other people's posts, show empathy towards a person who has become an easy target not just in figure skating but for anyone who's ever heard of the Harding/Kerrigan scandal.

IMO, it's one thing to be angry at Tonya for the pain she inflicts on other people. But the person who has suffered and continues to suffer most, again JMO, from her inability to manage her own anger is Tonya, the bulk of which, I suspect, is probably directed at herself--though that's just my armchair psychology. Her behavior is clearly a well-established pattern and I agree that it probably indicates some kind of mental illness.

I sincerely hope she gets the help she needs.

There is some sort of musical or opera going on about the Harding/Kerrigan scandal, it's a college thing my friend Ruby told me about in Baltimore.
 
Why is it the only time you hear about Tanya is when she done something wrong? Maybe the press / news should just leave her alone. I bet she's not the only one to ever knock the crap out of a boyfriend.

No,but you can bet she's the only celebrity to:
~Have her wedding night video get sold by her ex-hubby and get mass-marketed
~On the crest of her 'comback',blow it away with a drunken hub-cap incident with her new boyfriend,resulting in a three day stint in jail;
~Have a DUI,resulting in another stint in jail;
~Get taken to court by her landlord for non-payment of rent;
~This new incident,and(drum-roll,bbbbrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiipp!):
~ALL OF THE ABOVE!

Don't blame the messenger.

So do people suffering from anorexia, depression, bipolar disorder, rage disorder, the list goes on and on. Turning away people who offer help is often part and parcel of the "illness." "Illness" is in quotes because I'm not a doctor; if I were a doctor, I would not have been able to examine Tonya; and thus my educated guess that she has some sort of mental disorder is just that: a guess.

Until Tonya is able to accept help, which is a big unknown, I have no doubt her problems will continue. Her mother, whether you believe Tonya's stories about her or not, has been identified as an alcoholic and according to Tonya's father, raged out of control and was violent towards both Tonya and himself. Not a good genetic inheritance on her mother's side, though Tonya's father seems to be a mentally stable and kind man, though by his own admission passive when it came to dealing with Tonya's mother, who has always seemed supportive of his daughter.

Whether or not Tonya is a "celebrity" or just tabloid fodder based on one notorious incident--IMO, she's the latter--she still deserves help for her problems, just as all people with mental disorders do, no matter how many times they turn people away.

For example, Sean Astin's mother, the actress Patty Duke is bipolar (manic depressive). She would function well enough to work for a while and then go completely out of control. By her own account, during one of her manic phases she bought a plane. Not a small two-seater, but a full blown airline passenger jet. Duke lived like this for decades until she was accurately diaagnosed and properly treated.

For more information on actors with bipolar disorder go to http://www.talentdevelop.com/depression3.html Let me re-emphasize that I'm not saying Harding is bipolar since I don't know, but this web site does provide examples of celebrities who "acted out" for many, many years and, like Tonya, were offered help from many sources but either refused it or relapsed many times. Some took the help but kept relapsing for many years, eg, Robert Downey, Jr. Others were never able to be helped, eg. Vivien Leigh. Just because someone does not accept help doesn't mean they don't want and need it.

Of course people are entitled other opinions. This is just mine.

Doesn't Tonya have any true friends who will tell her, point-blank, that she needs to get professional help? Please, feeling sorry for the girl just doesn't cut it. It's time for some tough love and frank talk with this woman. Until she straightens out her head, she will continue to spiral downward with bizarre behavior and brushes with the law.
