A big thank you to the Toronto Airport Fire dept. They did a great job getting to the wreck, putting out the wing(s) fire and foaming the fuselage. The CRJ carries its fuel entirely in the wings. The telemetry has now been released. The pilot was fighting a variable quarting headwind all down the 3 degree glide slope. Once over the runway, his/her rate of descent suddenly increased, and jet engines dont spool up fast.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOYiQG43v64

In 2005, there was an even worse accident by an aircraft landing in Toronto. Air France flight 358 went off the end of the runway and fell into a ravine. Like the current crash, there were no fatalities. Wikipedia article

The people evacuating the plane were not on the airport property and not accessible by vehicle. Many of them staggered up out of the ravine and were driven to the airport or hospital by motorist on HWY 401, the major Toronto-area highway, who stopped to pick them up.

Quite a story! The latest incident where a rough running engine on a plane out of Colorado Springs that diverted to Denver (better crash facilities) is interesting. I have seen no video of the plane landing. Just burning at the gate. Now if it were me, I would cut the fuel off to the bad engine taxing back to the gate but I have to wonder if the vibration was caused by a "departed" compresser or even turbine blade that punctured something. Like a fuel tank. The image of pax standing on the wing is a reminder of the "miracle on the Hudson" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_France_Flight_358
