As some of you know, I had a root canal done last Spring and the darn tooth was still bothering me for over six months. I finally saw a specialist and he found more infection in a nerve of the tooth that the dentist was unable to remove. My options are more surgery to save the tooth or have it extracted. He says there is no guarantee the surgery will work and I may lose the tooth anyway. Also both my dental plans may not cover the surgery. The strange thing is since seeing the specialist the tooth has stopped bothering me!!

probably because you finally know what's going on

I'd say just have it extracted... unless it's one of the more visible of teeth...

That is very similiar to what happen to me. I had to see a specialist. What he did actually worked for a couple of years. But my infection came back and I just recently had the tooth extracted. If you have it extracted ask what your option are as far as having something in that space. You could get a bridge. But they are expensive. Maybe your dentist can make some sugestions. Good Luck!

I agree with the other posters extraction seems like the best option. Take it form someone who knows and went through root canal h****. Good luck.

Glad to hear it stopped bothering you. I find it funny that insurance will cover a bridge - involving "tapping into" 2 other teeth - but not implants? I would agree that extraction is the best option for if it does not remove the infection entirely it will possibly spread to the jaw, and dependent on how fast it spreads, they could be doing a lot of bone scraping. And that is where they will need most of that jaw bone to set the post for the implant.

Good luck and hope it continues not to cause you pain or discomfort.

I'm glad you have answers!
I'd say have the tooth extracted also. If it's a back tooth, it's gone and you don't have to replace it...your problems hopefully will be over!

You gotta watch tooth infections...they can get really nasty and spread to the brain.
