Looking for recommendations on new blades! I am an Adult returning skater and have progressed quickly towards restoring my jumps, spins and skating skills since re-starting this spring. I had to buy new skates when I came back and ended up going with the Legacy 7 because my fitter was not able to source a CA or MK Pro in my size and I didn't really have a strong opinion on my blades at the time. My coach believes that my blades are going to hold me back as I start to work on restoring my doubles and more advanced turns and spins and wants me to upgrade to a more advanced blade. He gave a few recommendations but said it was really up to my personal preference. I've only ever skated on the Legacys, CAs (as a teen) and whatever beginner blades I had prior to that so I'm not too sure what to look for in a blade. I like the 7ft rocker, but I'm open to trying an 8ft. In terms of my skating, we will start working on restoring axel and double sal once I have new blades, but I don't have aspirations to ever do anything beyond a double flip (which would be unlikely but not completely out of the realm of possibility). I am a fine jumper but I am much more talented at and passionate about spinning, and I really want to focus on mastering turns. I don't want (or need) a super premium or advanced blade - I'm potentially interested in getting a matrix, but I'm not sure which profile would be right for me.

With all that being said, I'd greatly appreciate any guidance or recommendations anyone may have on which blades could be right for me - Thanks!

What would be the advantage of the Gold Star over the Phantom? I've been trying to find the answer myself but I can't quite understand the differences between the two profiles.
Gold Star is ideal for spins compared to Phantom. It's tapered and has side honing, and a second radius that allows for the high pitch (lift) for spins. ;). It also does not have the monster jumper toepick of the Phantom.

Does the tapering and side honing mean specialist sharpening?

It should definitely be a tech that knows what they are doing with top figure skate blades, but it's not specialist to the degree that the jigs etc are with the matrix blades that have the removeable runners.

Gold Seal is same way as Star with sharpening b/c it's designed similar.

Thanks! This is a super helpful explanation. I'm definitely not interested in a monster jumping toe pick!!

I've skated on both (as, I'm sure, has @Ic3Rabbit ) and whilst I adored my Phantoms, I have to say that Gold Star are total spinning machines! Without the monster toepick that can catch out the unwary.
