US Nationals Practice Schedule

One thing I notice looking over the list of practice groups, is that Davis and White are nowhere to be found on it; don't tell me they didn't qualify!?! That would be such a set back for them. Also means Pratt & Giles should walk away with the Junior dance title.

Thanks Sk8fanconvert. This is agreat help in deciding whether or not to watch the practices.

Interesting Groups

LADIES - Group A: Alissa, Danielle, Michelle, Bebe, among others

Group B: Sasha, Kimberly, Yebin, Angela, Katy, Angela Lien, and check this: Emily Hughes!

Group C: Erica, Jane, Amber, Jennifer D and Jennifer K among others.

MEN - Group A: Pennington, Smith, Weir among others

Group B: Goebel, Lysacek Weiss, among others

Group C: Brauninger, Delmore, Jahnke, Phan, Savoie, Toland, Wong.

Question: I do not see Rohan. Why?

Point of Interest: Tiffany Stiegler and Sergey Magerovsky will be skating Dance.

Charlie White broke his ankle before Mids, and because there are no more medical byes to Nationals, he and Meryl Davis are not in the Junior Dance event at Nationals.

Rohene Ward did not qualify -- he placed 6th at Mids. Puerto Rico became a provisional member of the ISU in October, and so Rohene, as the 2004 P.R. national champion, now has the option of representing Puerto Rico later this season.

Thanks for the explanations Sylvia. I didn't know Rohene was a Puertorican. I hope he does get to skate. He's the most interesting to watch during the practice sessions. Very talented but just can't get it together when it counts.

I too will miss Rohene at nationals; great if he is able to compete for Puerto Rico!

Also, long-time Nationals competitor Andrea Gardiner did not make it out of sectionals.

Also, being the victim of a broken ankle myself, I can't think he would be anywhere near ready to skate at that level by Nationals. All right, I know there is a 35 year difference in ages, but still......

Looking for any info/tips on who to watch during practices! I know I will want to watch them all! Any names not to miss in the novice, junior, and just turned senior groups?

PS. I am so excited to see these schedules up! Oh the anticipation!

What a bummer!

 Has anyone taken a good look at some distressing scheduling conflicts (if I'm reading it correctly)?

The last practice for the Free Dance and Pairs' Long Program occurs at the same time (different arena, of course) as the Men's and Ladies' Short Programs (the actual event)!

AND the last practices for Men's and Ladies' Long Program are during the Free Dance event and the Pairs' Long event!!

I'm very disappointed; I don't recall this type of scheduling in Dallas or Atlanta. I love practices! And I spent a lot of $ on an all-event ticket, largely because that's the only way to get a practice pass. I think I'm going to let Portland2005 know.

[ :rolleye: Off Topic: Do you find it annoying that I began sentences twice with conjunctions? It's a sure sign to me that I'm upset!]

I didn't notice that either!!! OMG! That is not fair at all... I am upset big time! I spent a buttload of money just so I could also go to the practices! GRRRRRRR

come on, let's go chew them out!

On the PLUS side... there isn't a official practice rink that is far, far away from the main competition venue. Since there are only 2 rinks in use for Nationals (and walkable from one to the other!), it's inevitable there will be some overlapping events/practices.

 No, IMHO it's quite good style, actually. AND it's effective for emphasis, LOL.

Yikes! I hope it's not like that for St. Louis.

Yes, that is a plus- in Atlanta the last ladies' practice was an hour's drive away. BUT it didn't conflict with any other senior championship event!

Overall I expect Portland to be mainly pluses- excellent transport, food choices, venues... I just can't believe that I'll miss that much practice (or miss those competitions).

Actually this is not all that unusual. There have been several years when I have had to miss one competition or another to watch the last men's practice. I remember missing quite a bit of Dance in Boston so I could go watch Braden Overett at the last practices.

There is always some sort of scheduling problem that prevents me from seeing one discipline or another. I'm to the point where I just plan on it.

Also remember that many of the seniors are getting in the habit of practicing at some other time on some other rink. Many times they don't show up for scheduled practices anymore. It's a judgement call these days. At least with the rinks so close, if the skaters don't show, you can allways get back to the competition quickly.

Actually the complaint I have is that there is only one official practice per discipline per day. They started doing that only last year IIRC. That's bad for the skaters who are there all week with only one official practice per day. 40 minutes a day is supposed to keep them sharp? I don't think so. So now at their own expense they have to take the time to make arrangements to skate elsewhere during the week, and under less controlled conditions, too. Shabby treatment of the skaters IMO.

That is a bummer that some key practices conflict with the competiton...sigh.

Of course what is REALLY bumming me out right now is I just realized that the NFL Playoffs conflict with my trip to Portland! ARGH! I must confess I am quite the football freak...I am staying with my in-laws while in Portland and they have Tivo--there, a solution! I can get home from spending morning, noon, and night watching skating and then watch a Tivo'd football game lickety-split!

US Championships are less than a month away! Woo-hoo!
