Same thing happened to me about 20 years ago in Salt Lake City, Lad and Herm. A cop tried to stop a guy in a Jeep for running a stop sign. Guy in what turned out to be a stolen Jeep took off and result was a high speed chase through a residential neighborhood. Jeep guy turned going wrong way on my one way street. I was reading in my apartment and heard what sounded like a loud car door slam. I looked out the window just in time to see the cop drive by. Since the guy hit my car on the opposite side from me, I didn't check. A few minutes later my neighbors come by and tell me I'd better look at my car. The whole driver's side door was bashed in. The Jeep guy hit three other cars, finally couldn't drive it, and was caught running up the steps of the governor's mansion (no kidding, lol). Insurance covered it but I had to pay the $100 deductible. Just happy nobody was hurt or killed.
Then when I had my very first new car and was parked on the other corner, somebody bashed the fender in the middle of a snowy slippery night. Now THAT ticked me off!
Worst almost random: My boyfriend left late one night. Two days later, he nad I were walking down the street and my next door neighbors were sitting on the porch. We said "Hi" and they said, "Hey, there was a guy trying to get into your apartment the other night." It was the night my boyfriend had gone home and I was alone. Some guy had gone across the street; gotten a ladder; put it up to my back window, which was open (it was summer); and started climbing up, all while my neighbors were sitting on their porch watching. When he got about halfway up, one of them said, "Hey, what are you doing?" The guy scrambled down and took the ladder back across the street. We asked if they had called the police and my neighbors said no, the guy hadn't done anything wrong. Oy! No, not this time! We did call the police, but it was too late to search the area or check the ladder for fingerprints. I was thankful to my neighbors for being out there and yelling at the guy, but miffed at them for not calling the police.
We usually don't know what might have been or how close we've come.
If you're still having trouble sleeping Lad, try taking a Benadryl tab. The antihistimine is a good sleep aid. Many hospitals use it.
