Apparently Canada's Olympic team has no Flag Bearer designated as of yet. No one wants to volunteer to carry the flag during the March in by the athletes at the Olympic opening ceremony. As Don Cherry (Canadian Hockey announcer) puts it: "Can you imagine the US having such a problem? They should be ashamed of themselves." Just goes to show you how low key we are about such things. So much for our Olympic spirit. I wonder if it will be the same at the Vancouver, 2010 Olympics.

What??? I can't believe that, Ladskater! What about Jeffrey Buttle or Emanuel Sandhu? They would be wonderful flag bearers.

I remember how proudly Brian Orser carried the Canadian flag into the opening ceremonies in Calgary.

Well, so far they have only asked a couple of skiers, maybe our figure skaters will step up to the plate.

I say, ask Jeff and Emanuel. Maybe they can both carry the flag!

I will carry the flag and be darn proud of it.
Oops, I forget, I'm not an athlete.
I wonder if Piel and Doggygirl are still interested in racing the luge with me. There's probably still some time for them to get their Canadian citizenship. I got connections in high places-they wouldn't have to go through all that paper work to get on my team. We can carry the flag together. If anybody else is interested, let me know.

I say it'll be Jeremy Wotherspoon.

My aunt for the past 2 months has said it will be Jeff. After these latest developments, maybe she isn't on crack like I've been suggesting...

I shouldn't speak for DG...but I will:rofl:   ! Of course we will be proud to march in with the Maple Leaf. The Canadians always have the coolest costumes...Do ya think we could stay at the same hotel as Silvia Fontana for a "chance" meeting with Johhny Z.?

We have always had the coolest costumes in the past, but not this year. Roots isn't the designer any more, it's now the Hudson Bay Company. It's a little 'summery' for the Winter Olympics, and there are colors in there that aren't anywhere to be seen when thinking about Canada, i.e. green, blue, orange, etc.

I think any athlete would be proud to carry the flag of their country. But isn't it the "carrying the flag" JINX that's the issue here? I'm pretty sure that's the problem. There has been talk of Carolina Kostner jinxing herself by carrying Italy's flag in the opening ceremonies. I'm pretty sure that's it. Nobody is jumping up to ask for the job, that would be a little bit egotistical and with the superstition around this, I think that's what it's all about. I never thought you volunteered for it anyway, I thought you were asked. But even if someone has been asked and declined, which I have not heard happened, I'll bet it's for the JINX reason.

If it is about not wanting to be the flag bearer just plain and simple, then I'm disgusted. But I'm pretty sure it's the reasons I gave. Who knows?

If DG declines, I will! Or at least I'll go as an alternate. I have family from Michigan, so that practically makes me Canadian anyway.

Piel you can speak for me anytime! Count me in for Millie's Luge team. Do we have a team name yet?

DG

I highly doubt that Jeff and Emanuel would agree to carry it together but maybe by themselves. I vote for Jeff to carry it :)

Well in that case, can I be first alternate? Three experiences with snow is enough to qualify me, right?
