Was her switch from mary and evy to Richard Callen w/e a mistake?!?! I noticed after she switched she lost her flip and lutz jump, or was this because of her hip injury.

You never know all the reasons why a skater changes coaches. Unless all respondents are or have been personally involved with Jennifer Kirk, this thread is really inappropriate.

Why is this so inappropraite? People post about coaches, switching coaches, so-and-so needs to get a new coach, etc., all the time. There have been quite a few posts about Miki Ando and Morosov, and that seems to go over well enough.

It's not like Phobia was asking about Jenny's weight, or her love life...

Perhaps if the question had been phrased, "What was the impact of Jenny Kirk's 2003 coaching change?" To ask "Was it a mistake?" is to imply those answering know all the reasons that went into it. Assess it, yes. But judging it requires all the details.

Was Jenny Kirk's coaching change back in 03 a mistake?

I think to answer this we need only listen to Jenny's own words. She stated very clearly that she lost her passion for skating. She implied it was partially due to her mother's death (whom she saw as her biggest supporter). I believe this interview was seen on an Ice Diaries segment. Perhaps changing coaches was her last ditch effort to spark her interest in skating.

Jenny Kirk was a very talented and lovely skater but I think she is seeking other interests and hopefully happy.

Shouldn't the Moderators decide or state which thread is inappropriate? No need to be paranoid......

The bottom line on all these cases of 'wuzzrobbed' is that it is not the coachs faults. It is either the skater's inability to rise to the occasion that night, or there may have been some hanky panky going on.

Why do fans of skaters who witness a poor showing blame it on the coach? A skater (and a fan) should know long before a competition that 'it's not working with this coach, it's best to find a new one before the competition.

As for cynics, who would have wanted the skater in question put down? Not easy to prove.

I think DizzyDi's answer is correct. Jenny's interest in skating was slipping away, especially after the loss of her mother. She made a conscious effort to get a fresh start and test herself, to see if this was really what she wanted to do or not.

But I believe that Jenny was not happy living in the Detroit area. Although her older sister ( = perhaps the only young lady in the world who is even prettier than Jenny -- I met them both at Skate America that year) came to live with her, I think she was homesick and lonely.

For some reason Los Angeles suited her better and she perked up to some extent when she moved out there.

For some reason, I'd been under the impression that the Scotvolds were retiring and finding a new coach was more a necessity than anything. Am I wrong, are they still coaching?
