What are you listening to right now?

I'm in shock. Probably the most famous person from my county, actor Sam Neill, has died at the age of 78.

Although I have seen him in many things over the years, I will always associate him with one particular role. When he played one of the main characters in the film that defined my childhood.

With that in mind, I just had to listen to it's iconic theme after hearing the news:

John Williams & The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra - "Jurassic Park"

That music gets me every time I hear it.

Thank you, Sam, for being somebody that we in Tyrone could look up to, and be proud to say that you were one of our own.

My thoughts go out to all his family, friends, and fans.

What a beautiful theme tune!

Oooh. I hadn't come across that series, but reading about it it sounds like the sort of thing I would like. There are a few channels that are showing a lot of series from the 70's and 80's, so I'll keep an eye out for it.

A couple of months ago, one of those channels showed the TV adaptation of Jeffrey Archer's "Kane & Abel", and I taped it because Sam Neill played one of them. But I didn't get watching it, because we soon replaced the box it was taped on as it only let you record strictly to the scheduled times, and so a lot of programmes recorded were missing either the start or end (or both!)

Here's the theme tune:

Billy Goldenberg - "Kane & Abel"

I have been waiting for it to be repeated (that channel repeats things very frequently), but now that he has died, I think I will hook that box up again and watch it as a tribute over the next few days.

I have to say, I am very annoyed with the BBC. Their report about Sam's death on the main national news never even mentioned that he was from Northern Ireland. But at least BBC NI made a big deal of him being our own in their report on the local news.

Unfortunately, Northern Ireland has now lost three high-profile public figures in the past few days, after the deaths of newsreader Dermot Murnaghan and sports journalist Jim Gracey, who both died on Saturday at the age of 68 after illnesses.

My thoughts are also with their families and friends.

Based on an actual spy (for the UK) Reilly was completely unknowable. Born in Odessa he hated Bolshevism and attempted to overthrow Lenin then Stalin, the plan being to place himself at or very near the top of the new Russian government which would have had democratic leanings. He failed but we can speculate.. if only Reilly had succeeded. The series is riveting. Reruns tend to be dated and a remaster is in order. We might see it

I vaguely recall Kane and Abel .. will definitely watch it. Both music themes would be wonderful skating programs ..

Funny thing about Sam Neil is the quality of his work remained consistently high and versatile throughout his career. Another very early film is My Brilliant Career with a young Judy Davis. All us women who saw the film said she was STUPID to give up his marriage proposal for her writing career😅
All Facebook tributes I’ve read mention his NI roots..
Anyway… again… God Speed🥹

How about this, @4everchan?

Saw a story on the local news tonight that I thought might interest you and the other pianists on here:

BBC Northern Ireland - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5yznq14zxlo
Ulster TV - https://www.itv.com/watch/news/lisb...passing-piano-exam-with-only-one-hand/4t5j47n

The latter is the report shown on the TV, and includes Freya playing. The former is a written article that includes a short video, but it doesn't give you a chance to hear much of her playing.

Hope they aren't geo-blocked.

EDIT: Just found this very comprehensive story about Freya on her piano teacher's website:
