What blade is most similar to MK vision?

Hello! I am curious to know which blade is more comparable to the discontinued MK Vision. It seems the MK phantom is its replacement but I have heard the pattern 99 may actually be more comparable? I’m specifically interested in the spin rocker profile.

I’ve tried 3 different blades over the last 2 years (Coro ace, Mk visions, Mk pro) and my spins especially were 10x better in the visions than the others. The Mk pros pitch me forward and the Coro aces I have never been able to spin on.

I am leaning more toward the phantom since it has the 7” rocker that I like and am used to, and is also the same manufacturer as the vision. I’m hesitant to try the pattern 99 because I’ve heard it has the same or similar spin rocker as the coronation ace that I have not had great success with spins.

Would love to hear your insight and feedback to help my decision, please and thank you!

Not the blades I use myself, but my daughter recently switched from MK Pros to MK Phantoms and loves them. She tried Coronation Ace in the past and, like you, lost her spins on them. Later she gave the Pattern 99s a try on her coach's recommendation, but again found she couldn't spin on them at all. She's not a jumper and just skates for fun, liking spins and footwork best, so she's found her blade of choice in the Phantoms.

I'm going to throw a black horse into this mix: Paramount 17" ("Phantom" copy).

Given proper sharpening, it would probably be the closest to the Vision when it comes to the features (7' parallel blade).

I could imagine Pattern 99 potentially feeling similar if one comes with a rounded rocker, either from factory or by sharpening. But that's a lot of if. Wouldn't exactly recommend.

Your safest bet is probably going with the MK Phantom, and see how you like them.

I would point out, that you absolutely need to have those Phantoms sharpened and set up by someone who has experience sharpening such blades (side honed, tapered). You will often hear that Paramounts need a special jig to sharpen and whatnot, but those Paramount blades are far easier to actually sharpen well, and those Phantoms are far more likely to get butchered by a single bad sharpening. Just something to be aware of.

Good luck!
