Lucinda is the best spinner, however Sasha should get honorable mention for introducing high quality positions on all of her spins. She hits sit spin positions, I spin, Biellman, camel and layback perfectly (and all others that I have failed to mention). Lucinda's best position is her Biellmann and all of the others are fairly standard, though the speed and centering is what sets them apart.

Where's Nathalie Krieg??? She was the Swiss champion before Ruh and I preferred her spinning. Ruh had more 'interesting' positions but Krieg's speed and centering were unmatched (and very good positions too, just not as striking as Ruh's).

Unfortunately she wasn't a very good jumper and even more unfortunately the double ax was her special weakness. But look her up on youtube for truly amazing spinning.

Denise Biellman (sp?) Great variety & imaginative combinations. Based on what I remember of seeing her in the pro comps.

I've never heard of her before, but I will look her up. Thanks! :)

Very cool that Nathalie Krieg was, what is it with the Swiss and spinning? I guess if the hockey teams are shoving them in corners that IS all the practice they can get in. Great finnish on that routine!

Wow, again thanks!

If anyone found N Krieg on youtube, could you please give a link or tell me how to search for it? I only found one vid of her, and I wasn't THAT impressed. She was 13. Thanks!

Yeah, she got a lot better a few years later. There used to be a lot more Krieg videos on Youtube (her SP at Lillehammer was pretty good IIRC and she actually skated clearn), a huge amount of skating videos have disappeared lately and I'm not sure why, where they pulled? If so why?

I just love Alissa's spins. I wish wish wish she could get her jumps in order b/c it's the only thing missing! I don't get the fuss over Lambiel's spins-yes, they are fast but, there's not a lot of interesting positions to them. Now take Weir's cannonball's that he then turns into catchfoot-those are truly breathtaking.

Just her spins, or over all - and considering her age????

What am I missing, this is in a due respect and not rebuttal. I am really curious.
It was just my opinion - you've seen a lot more than I have, Seanibu, so we probably just see it differently. Also, I am often not great at spotting young talent.

Anyway, I just didn't see anything in that one tape of her at 13 that I would compare to Lucinda Ruh at... I think 17 or 18 in the earliest vids of her that I've seen. But I'll keep my eyes open for some of the later ones Mafke posted about.

Caroline Zhang is my favorite spinner, her spins are so pretty. And than Lucinda Ruh comes a very close second.

Thanks for the reply, I doubt I have seeen that much more - jeesh way to make a guy feel old:laugh:

Anyhoo, I was just curious, was surprised to hear that you weren't impressed - I acutely thought I was not aware of something. That finish (CCoSp ?) was gorgeous IMO, but hey what do I really know. I mean that, as I said not trying to rebuttal just asking to see if there was something I should be looking for..I really wasn't trying to be a smart "a." hope you didn't take it that way. Just trying to get some healthy education going around.

Lambiel seems to me to be a victim of the CoP (well, not that much of a victim - he won the world championship twice, LOL.) Two or three years ago his spins were outstanding, and they did have innovative positions and combinations of positions in them.

But in the last couple of years it seems like he can't decide whether to change his technique to try to get the maximum levels, or whether to continue on his own road.

Plus don't forget that a lot of innovative positions that he used also made the other guys start using them too...it seems that all COP spins look the same nowadays and alot of the men have taken their lead on positions from Lambiel.

Without doubt: Lucinda Ruh and Nathalie Krieg, plus Stephane Lambiel. There are other great spinners, but they don't have the Swiss skater's speed and variety of positions! They may have the speed, but not the variety of positions and flexibility, or beautiful variety of positions, but not the incredible speed. I like Sasha Cohen's and Alissa Czinsny's spins, they look beautiful, and Caroline Zhang seems to be a star in making.
