Wish list for 2012

1. A perfect Aranjuez from Chan

2. Gold to medal at junior worlds.

3. Fair judging

4. Bobak/Beharry to medal at junior worlds

5. Stolbova/Klimov get another chance at a senior competition this year

6. V/M to win 4CC, thus setting up huge drama at Nice

Continuing.....

7. Brian Joubert to medal at Euros (preferably silver), Worlds (preferably bronze), and win CoC.

8. Savchenko/Szolkowy to land the 3ATh and win Worlds and Euros.

9. Ingo Steuer to choreograph Chan's LP next season. And Virtue/Moir's FD.

10. A fall-less top ten from the men.

I think wishing a skater to fall is not a very healthy attitude fan - wise, these are ahletes, not our puppets, neither it increases the quality of the sport we are supposed to love watching them fall.
I know, but I really want Daisuke Takahashi to win and I feel that unless Chan falls on every element, he's unbeatable.
And in case you still don't get it, I'm kidding.

I hate it when Patrick messes up. I think he needs to control the speed and realize that even the best skaters can't pull every jump out of nowehere. Maybe he needs to sacrifice a bit of the transitions, footwork, and yes speed to have a bit more set up to his jumps, so he becomes a reliable skater. It really is awful when he's so out of control he smashed a combo into the boards. Speed is great and no one is faster than him, but he could take some lessons on control from past skaters (or Yuna for that matter).

Are you his volunteer coach?

America:

1. I wish that Gracie Gold is and/or remains as good as her reputation, and doesn't peak early like Caroline, Rachael, and I suspect, Mirai.

2. I wish that Mirai did not peak early and gets it together and medals at Worlds. If this isn't possible, substitute another name for Mirai (Alissa, Ashley, etc.)

3. I wish that Jeremy gets it together and gets the bronze at Worlds.

4. I wish for 3 spots in women and men for 2013

5. I wish for another World Championship for Davis and White

International

1. I hope that Patrick Chan skates clean at Worlds and wins.
2. OR--I hope if he makes any mistake worse than a foot down or a messy quad, that he is beaten by someone who skated clean.
3. Most of all, I hope I can see this sport again. No more Universal Sports on my cable tv.

I did give Alexei some advice in 2002. He took it. Maybe he was hearing it from others. Not that I know hm well, but he was online a lot with fans. I'd be happy to tell patrick what krall is not telling him. No charge either.;)

You know, it's actually interesting. In the run-up to the Olympic games, he mentioned that he was planning to lessen the transitions to help him get the quad. That plan went by the wayside with injury, of course, and I suppose he felt he needed the density of the choreography to make up on PCS what he lost out not having the quad. Interestingly, he'd rather rearrange jumps as opposed to lose the transitions now (in POTO, the spread eagle originally went into the 3R, but his loop is actually a weaker triple for him, so he switched it with the flip). I wouldn't mind seeing him lose a little of the transitions etc if it helped him with jump stability, but I also feel "Aranjuez" is a masterpiece of choreography as is, so I don't want to see any changes choreographically.

On the other hand, when you're capable of doing choreography at this level of complexity, I can see why you wouldn't want to dumb it down, regardless.

My wishes:
Mao wins Worlds
Mirai wins Nationals
Alissa makes the Worlds team
The US ladies regain 3 spots for 2013 Worlds
Dai Takahashi wins Worlds
Jeremy Abbott wins Nationals and make the Worlds podium
The Shibs make the Worlds podium

I like the sound of this.

It really is awful when he's so out of control he smashed a combo into the boards.

I don't think this incidence should be used against Patrick in general. Unfortunately, it has become the nay-sayer's punch line.

I truly believe that he was too much into the character in which he was portraying, and wanted to please the pretty girls who are looking at him. Then he's over done it which has embarrassed himself. Everybody has had such a moment or two at one time or another.

Definitely! It is a choreographical masterpiece. I wouldn't wish to see him dilute his Aranjuez. I wouldn't mind him keeping it one more season.

I assume your advice was, stop starving yourself and gain some weight. He did, and became Olympic champion.

I don't think so.:)

I remember perfectly that when yagudin was on ice before his SP, Scott Hamilton said that Yagudin took this Olympics so seriously, "This year he comes back thinner, meaner, and stronger."

IIRC when he skated in the goodwill games - where he jumped and hit the boards with his head when he landed - he was TOO thin, by the olympics he'd balanced out a bit more... figured crash dieting wasn't that good of an idea...

I think Toni is right. I believe that the sequence of events went like this.

In the 2000-2001 season Alexei did not jump well, losing to Plushenko at the Grand Prix Finals, Europeans and Worlds. He decided to quit smoking and go on a crash diet. He lost 18 pounds.

Here is his first skate of the 2001-2002 season. The commentators (I think they are Brian Boitano and Tracy Wilson) mention the drastic weight loss and how it seemed to affect his stamina. He crashed into the boards on the second jump of his quad/triple combo, popped his triple Axel, and ran out of steam on his triple Lutz.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGOlbL-a_DQ

Boitano made the strange comment that if he hadn't hit the boards he probably would have landed the combo, so therefore if he had been a judge he would not take anything off the technical mark because if it (?) The actual judges disagreed, giving him technical marks of 4.4 to 5.1. Later Boitano specifically made the point that skaters sometimes try to lose weight thinking it will help their jumps, but it usually backfires -- as in Alexei's case -- because they lose strength.

The 18 pound weight lose is also mentioned in Alexei's Wikipedia entry as a cause for his lack of energy.

After that, Mrs. Tarasova read him the riot act and he got on a proper nutrition and training regimen. A month later he won Skate America and went undefeated the rest of the year.

Yes this is how it went, I remember this season he was extremely thin and unfocused.
I wish Lubov would have the same advice cause I heard she is losing weight cause she thinks she would land her jumps this way...

but Natalia Ogoreltseva is 11 years old. , I think that is too young for JGP ???
