Is "prigs" the word of British origin?

Yes, I wasn't sure if "prig" was ever used by Americans to describe someone they do, I think, call a "stuffed shirt", or if it was just British/Canadian/etc. My dictionaries all had the word and didn't say it was [Brit], but I've only been across the border a couple of times in my life, briefly, and the word never came up in conversations :). Didn't think I'd ever heard it in an American film or on TV, though.

I've probably heard the word "prig" or being "prig-ish" somewhere (maybe in a British movie?) or in a conversation between Brits.
