Wow! Worlds already!
These Ladies predictions are going to be slightly different to what you would expect. Well, maybe not what you would expect from me. But, what you would expect from somebody who knows what they are talking about.
For a start, I have not put Zhenya on top. In fact, I have put the girl who is FIFTH on the absolute PB order. Come on, you know I just love Anna Pogo! And, if I am totally honest, I am surprised that she was as low down as 5th – I would have guessed 2nd!
I was really torn over who to put on the remaining steps of the podium. It was between the girls who were 1st, 3rd and 4th on the absolute PB list. My brain was saying to have Medvedeva in 2nd. Damage limitation. But, I would LOVE to see Sotskova and Kostner joining Pogorilaya on the podium.
I went with my heart. Although, my heart was switching them from the absolute PB order so that Caro was ahead of Maria.
Then damage limitation kicked in. Zhenya went into fourth.
Oh, and in case anybody is thinking these mad predictions sound familiar so far, then you are right. The Top 4 is the same as what I had for Europeans!
But fifth onwards is where I will deviate from my Euros predictions. There was no question over who was going to fill the next two places. Kaetlyn Osmond and Rika Hongo. I just love them!
Yes, I know I am taking a major risk with Rika. Especially since she is actually the third Japanese girl according to the absolute PB’s (although, to be fair, there is barely 2 points covering all three of them). But I don’t care. She’d have been in my Top 5 if it wasn’t for Zhenya!
In an ideal world, I would have put the other two Japanese girls next. But, I decided that it was time for some more damage limitation.
I was surprised to find that Ashley was still as high as 2nd in the absolute PB order. But, it was from Nationals back in 2015. Her next highest score (from last year’s Worlds) puts her just in front of the girl I had put in 3rd at Four Continents. So, I put Ashley into 7th, and put Karen Chen next.
To round up my Top 10, I had the two remaining Japanese girls. I kept Wakababy was 9th in the absolute PB order, so I kept her there. And I moved Mai from 8th to 10th (where Rika was originally).
As a fan of Japanese skaters in general, I was always going to put them all in my Top 10. But, to be totally honest, any of the next 7 girls on the absolute PB list are capable of easily getting into the Top 10. (Bell, Daleman, Lecavelier, Choi, Helgesson, Li, Tursynbaeva)
It is going to be an exciting competition!
I will get up early and make out my Pairs and (hopefully) Men’s predictions and paster them in here first thing tomorrow morning, before the snooker starts. (At the moment my priority is to finish watching the Men’s FS from Europeans!)
When I came to do Pairs, I have to admit I hadn’t a clue what order to put them in. I could see reasons for having any of the Top 5on the absolute PB list (as well as the couple in 9th position) winning. And, to be honest, I would be happy if any of them won!
Tarasova / Morozov, Sui / Han and Savchenko / Massot have all set new absolute PB’s in the past 2 months. The Top 2, Duhamel / Radford and Stolbova / Klimov, have absolute PB’s from last season. And their scores from this season have been a good bit lower.
Consequently, I moved them both off the podium. But, I still kept them in my Top 5. The question now was what order to have my podium.
In the end, I reversed the absolute PB order. I just have a feeling that Savchenko / Massot will do it, and Sui / Han will come second rather than Tarasova / Morozov.
Vanessa James / Morgan Cipres scored their absolute PB at Europeans, and it was only 2 points behind Savchenko / Massot. But, I ended up moving them down a place to 7th, as there was another partnership that I wanted as my alternate.
For my alternate, I promoted Yu / Zhang up from 9th on the absolute PB order. I just have a feeling that they could cause a major upset. But, I’m not brave enough to move somebody else out of the Top 5 to make room for them.
After the French, came a couple of North American partnerships. They were only 1 point apart, so I went with my personal preference. I moved Scimeca / Knierim ahead of Seguin / Bilodeau.
However, in the end, I actually moved them out of the Top 10 completely. You see, both of these couples scored their absolute PB’s last season, and their scores this season have not been as high as the next partnership on the absolute PB list, Lubov and Dylan, who scored their absolute PB at Four Continents last month.
Also, there were 2 younger partnerships that I wanted to promote into the Top 10. Actually, the past 2 Junior World Championship winning partnerships! So, Dušková / Bidař moved up from 15th to 9th, and Alexandrovskaya / Windsor moved up from 20th to 10th.
I realise that they are unlikely to do actually make the Top 10 (especially my children, with the problems Anna has been having this season). But I don’t care!
Didn’t have time to do the Men this morning, since I forgot that it takes a lot longer to look up the Pairs (and Dance) entries because there are 2 skaters per entry! And I still have the final group of the Men’s FS from Europeans to watch before the snooker starts.
