Yu-Na Kim's jumps discussion (merged threads)

I know it's hard to remember - but please read the guidelines. personal beefs with posters need to be taken to PM or email.

Dear Ladies and Gentlmen! Please, be kind to go to the rink and find out yourself whether you can even stand on the ice with your body leaning toward in with your left foot on an outside edge! If you can’t or don’t want to go to the rink, at least, ask someone else to do it and talk with him/her about it! Then anyone can understand this problem really easy even without taking some skaters in this Tread!

I've corrected as above! Is it O.K.?

You're comment is still pretty rude. I've been skating for a good 5 years and I'm pretty sure I know the difference between an inside and outside edge.

Then I should apologize for my rudeness, but I’ve never asked you to be pretty sure that you know the difference between an inside and outside edge, and how many hours have you been skating for a good 5 centries. I appologize for my rudeness.....

Please axalteke, can you pvt message to HCOSurfer, instead of posting your message here? I find your messages to be very rude and offensive.

These are the people who think Yu-Na lips...
1. Mao fans
2. Few technicians on panel.
3. People who thinks the Slightest outside edge is still a lip regardless of
flip mechanism.

and...

These are the people who think Yu-Na does TEXTBOOK FLIP...
1. Yu-Na Fans.
2. Most technicians on panels.
3. Great skaters and skaters who know how to execute a flip jump.

They better... REDEFINE the FLIP jump.

It is my understanding that technicians must use NAKED EYES to make
the wrong-edge call... due to the mechanism of flip jump which uses
marginally inside-edge when properly executed.

With regards to the 3rd category in each group, we can make some correction as follows :

3. People who thinks the Slightest outside edge is still a lip regardless of
flip mechanism only on the basis of the Graphic materials on YOUTUBE.

3. Great skaters and skaters who know how to execute a flip jump on the RINK itself

Throughout this tread we can notice some very interesting configuration - so-called ‘LAPTOP(or YOUTUBE) vs RINK’ :

One group is too busy in flipping some skaters on YOUTUBE in their Laptop.
Another group is too busy in flipping themselves on the RINK.

That’s enough! Let’s close this tread off! Many regular joes like me can already decide, whom should we listen to!

Ignorance, ignorance, ignorance...

You make a lot of assumptions in your post. I am a Yu-Na fan but I think that she does sometimes lip, though not as noticeably as someone like Caroline Zhang (can't even stand watching her jump!). I am a skater and I know how to execute a flip jump, and there is no "slight outside edge" involved. That would be a lutz. Or a lip. NOT a flip. I personally know several judges and have asked their opinions on this matter, and they agree, a properly done flip (be it single, double, triple, or even a quad) does not ever have even a "slight" outside edge.

I've been following ladies figure skating for 45 years and I get compliment as an
ignorant poster from you. THANK YOU !
In my IGNORANT OPINION, Yu-Na is the BEST FLIP JUMPER EVER. PERIOD.

Maybe, In your knowledgeable eyes, Yu-Na looked like use slight outside edge
but it is phisically impossible for her not to use inside edge. You WISEONE !

hm...

I have no hatred towards yu na kim. On the contrary, I have enjoyed her skating. The only thing I hate is the stupid UR/wrong edge call scheme. I am simply using Yu-Na as a vehicle to illustrate how unfair, subjective, manipulative and corrupt this scheme is.

I'm sorry, but you hate yu-na enough.;
I always saw your comments for yu-na and yu-na.
At first, I even thought you are a big fan of yu-na.
Why do you deny it?

I'm pretty sure that's an outside edge, right?

I said that SOMETIMES Yu-Na goes to an inside edge. Not all the time, just sometimes. And I don't get how it is "phisically impossible for her not to use inside edge." Is she somehow immune to going on an outside edge? Last I knew, she wasn't THAT special.

How can I... an ignorant poster... teach a wiseone the phisics of FLIP MECHANISM !!!

Please ask somebody wiser than you who can explain why Yu-Na can use
only slight inside edge with her entry to make a flip successful.

I understand why a flip would have a slight "inside" edge. It should have a slight inside edge, you don't want a really deep curve on your inside edge for a flip. But your original statement implied that Yu-Na physically is unable to go onto an outside edge on her flip, which is the point that I am arguing. She can, and occasionally DOES go to a slight outside edge on her flip, making it a lip.

But you know what? I'm done caring about whether or not Yu-Na has correct or incorrect edges on her jumps, and I'm done listening to people rationalize why wrong technique is actually ok (but apparently only when used by Goddess Yu-Na.). The only thing I care about is that Mao Asada beats the pants off of Yu-Na at Worlds this year. And I don't even care for Mao.

You have your own favorite skaters... I understand.

On my list...

Yu-Na comes 1st... Sasha...2nd... Kristi... 3rd and so on....
I just can't stand my favorite skater... WRONGLY ACCUSED.

I actually prefer Yu-Na, overall, to most of the other skaters today. Kimmie will always be my sentimental favorite, but I quite like Yu-Na. Her fans are making me very sick of her and them, though, and to be honest, I wouldn't be sad if she tanked at Worlds this season.

Kristi almost always made me happier because she normaly wins.
But I loved her choreography so much... It really didn't matter whether she won.

Sasha was always SPLENDID on ice.
She didn't win many times but I always enjoyed her skating sooo--- much.

Yu-Na's skating is not only BEAUTIFUL but also has something in it that
attracts me more than any other skaters.

I was away from ladies figure skating after Sasha left...

Yu-Na inspired me NEW INTEREST in figure skating.
I'll be happier if she wins...
Even if she doesn't... I still enjoy her BEAUTIFUL SKATING !
