Not sure if anybody remembers this guy, he and partner won World pairs in 1981 and silver in Euros in 1979 - he now lives and coaches in STL.

WHat have JOanne Conway and Karen Preston been up to these days?

I saw Joanne Conway on Eurosport a couple of years ago, I think she was coaching at Blackpool ice rink.
Does anyone know what happenned to the Polish skater Grzegorz Filipowski? I remember seeing him win the silver medal at the European Championships in Birmingham UK in 1989.

Joanne Conway has her own company - Hot Ice based in blackpool. I think the show runs for six months of the year. She has past UK champions (except of course Steven Counsins) and some European skaters who don't make it onto the tours in North America.

She was on Eurosport as a guest for the ladies competition at the last world champinships and was pretty outspoken about how much she hates the new system. She was also irrate about irina's win in Europe and possitively seething at her position after the SP. She said a couple of respectful things about Kwan and then gushed forever about Cohen and how beautiful a skater she is.

It made me laugh that Nicky Slater who had been discussing the judging system in a fairly even hadned way giving it only mild criticism was roasted by Joanne about some of the marking anomalies and all Nicky could do was say "well its all there in the score sheet and makes sense".

As for Karen Preston i don't have any information about her.

STL means the city of St. Louis, Missouri, USA.

The St. Louis Blues are the local hockey team, named after a famous jazz song, also called the St. Louis Blues.

Joanne Conway owning Blackpool will come as quite a shock to the Thompson family. Joanne skated in many, many Hot Ice shows there. But she doesn't own it.

Oops - i thought i'd read that she owned the company! Does she have a pretty major role like being the main choreographer?

Thank you, MM! Poor St. Louis just doesn't get the same recognition overseas as say, NYC or LA. :biggrin:

Scott Davis has been listed as a technical specialist at GP events. A few other men as well. Urmanov of RUS and Petrenko of the UKR. Several ice dancers have as well. Marika Humphreys (GBR), Sylvia Nowak (POL), and Katarina Mrasova (CZE). That's just to name a few.

Also Sergei Ponamarenko.

BTW, it looked like Oksana Kozakova sitting with Tomara Moskovina at the kiss and cry following O&S program at the COR. Anybody else saw her, or was it my imagination?

Ah, bless Angela...there was someone I would have really loved to have seen at the Olympics...

I heard that she was coaching several students and might be in attendance at Torino - but just not as a competitor.

I think that Biellman has several boutiques and sells designer sportswear(?). There's another skater I miss on the scene - especially since she can still do that spin better than any of the eligible ladies these days. ;)

Indeed. There are tons of US cities and it's hard to be sure which one you mean. Or would you recognize German cities by the abbreviations we use? (B, F, HH, DU, S, M, HB, FR... whatever)....

F or FR = Frankfurt
DU = Düsseldorf
S = Stuttgart
