Gorshkov:
"It's not my first year watching the ice dance. Of course, we can brag everywhere now that we defeated the Olympic silver medalists. However, I realize that despite the title, the Americans are the soap bubble. They were always the bubble. They are able team, they skate well, but they should've not been among the medal contenders at the Games. It was done artificially, first of all by the people who are on the technical commitee.

Andzej Dostatni is the most influencial person there. He's been living in America for many yeras and the annual exam results for technical specialists depend on him a lot. It's no accident that no Russian judge can pass this exam. Americans and Canadians pass it....

It's no secret that Dostatni consults the Americans even though officially he has not right to socilize with anyone. This is one of the reasons why Belbin and Agosot got level four for their footwork and lifts at the same time Navka and Kostomarov, Denkova/Stavijski, and Grushina/Goncharov - only level two. Kolia Morozov decided to outsmart everybody once. He made the same lift that Americans had for his Ukrainian team. He just copied it. So, at the Grand Prix the Americans got level four again, and Grushina/Goncharov - level two."

Thanks for posting that quote lanadd, as I hadn't read that before. :agree:

But what would his explanation be as to why his previous star pupils DenStav left him for Linichuk?
They claimed because they would not get a fair go, and he had a conflict of interest coaching them, a Bulgarian Team, as a Russian Coach expected to politik for his Russian couple. I'm tempted to say it's all politics, but it doesn't mean I don't still love the discilpline and watch it avidly, and care about it.

Dostatni hasn't called any events in this year's GP, so if he is the focus of Gorshkov's wrath and the reason for the accusations of 'fixing', then his comments do not apply to the 2006-2007 Grand Prix, but to LAST YEAR's events.

The caller can lower the level of the elements, but that wouldn't stop judges from piling on +GOE, or pumping up the PCS marks for "their" skaters to compensate. And from looking at the protocols, it's easy to see that some of the judges are doing exactly that for "their" skaters, while holding down GOE and PCS for their skaters' rivals.

He claimed they left because Linichuk "lured" them away with the promise of an Olympic medal. Accroding to him, he told them straightaway that they would win 2006 Worlds, after N&K and Co retire, but he cannot promise them anything about Torino and she did... and according to him, she promised the same to FP&M and he is just too noble to lie people in their faces.

And some of his calls last year were questionable at best. He "cancelled" the lift in Del&Sch FD at last year TEB, because during the dismount she was briefly in upside down split pose even though the rules explicitly say that it is allowed as a part of the entrance/exit as long as the position is not fixed.

It might of course be a pure coincedence that Del&Sch were challenging no other team than Morozov's Grushina&Goncharov, but even though I cannot recall the other incidents at the moment, his calls last year were rather clearly bent in favour of Shpiland and Morozov teams at the expence of everyone else.

Thanks for that Anna. Very interesting. I often wonder what would've happened if Babs & Mauri didn't fall in the OD.

I do feel sad that a couple of the quality of Albena & Maxim will finish their career with no Olympic medal. :frown:
I think the year they dropped down the rankings though was more due to Sergei Pethukov's choreography - he just had a bad year from his usual high standard - for both D&S couples' programmes that season before Olympic year.

Looks like it's

ice dance is indeed a very dirty sport. Can we simply banish this discipline and then ban Russian skaters from competing for one year?

I sure won't miss any Russian skater at least in the near future.

What about the new Pair you've been raving about?

MADE IN RUSSIA!

One half Russian, the other half coached entirely by a Russian.

Let's see what a Japanese Pair Coach could do for her talents instead shall we?

Why don't you give it a rest already with the anti-Russian sentiments. :rolleye:
