Ros was fun to watch but whenever Katarina Witt was in teh show I think Roz had issues with playing second fiddle to her, and tried to hard to be sexy... it was quite annoying lol

Has anyone skated to this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUsGh2xYYQg

I stumbled upon this clip with the composer of one of my favorite works playing it himself - so I posted this version.

For skaters the orchestral version would probably be better........

I picture Kristi skating to this.......or maybe Alissa or Mao.

LOL this is going to sound weird, but when I was growing up there was an TV ad for fancy cat food that used this music, so that's what I think of whenever I hear it!

Well I guess the English have classy cat food ads.

Here is another favorite Faure piece of mine:

This might be good for a dog food commercial

Haha well actually I grew up in Australia and that's where I saw the commercial! I remember the cat in it was called Natasha!

More seriously, I wonder if anyone has ever skated to Elgar's Cello Concerto? It has such a big swelling epic feel to it, I thought it would make a good skating piece!

Man, I love it when this thread heats up! The Gliere harp concerto is a great idea. A few years ago, by the way, Moskvina used parts of Gliere's Concerto for Coloratura and Orchestra. I guess it was allowed because the singer didn't sing any words but just vocalized (ravishingly).

Also, there's a meltingly lovely harp piece by Gabriel Pierne, the Concertstück for Harp, here in two sections:

part 2:

As for solo harp: It's one of the few instruments that can carry an entire composition without accompaniment because you can play chords and harmony at the same time on it. Some harp pieces are transcriptions from piano pieces--for example, I've heard "Clair de Lune" on harp.

Something written for harp is Gabriel Faure's "Une Chatelaine en sa Tour" (A Chatelaine in Her Tower):

For a more full-bodied sound, two other pieces with harp and small chamber ensemble, also French, are the Ravel "Introduction and Allegro":

...and the Debussy "Danses Sacree et Profane":

By the way, here's the first movement (or part thereof) of one of the rare melodic, traditional symphonies from the twentieth century, Howard Hanson's Symphony No. 2, called "The Romantic."

Olympia, I'm impressed with your knowledge of harp repertoir!
May I ask you if you are a harpist?
I happen to be one and could not recomend better harp music than you did!

Lol, I realized my mistake the day after, thus I posted Rosalynn Sumners lovely performance. I got the blondes mixed up.

I love Beethoven, period, so anybody that skates to his music I remember, especially when it's done as well as the two aforementioned lovely ladies.

By the way, people might think after what I posted about Katarina Witt that I prefer her over Roz, which is true when it came to their professional careers, but not their competitive ones. Sorry to say, but I always preferred Katarina to Rosalynn, this is the truth. I cheered for Witt at both the 1984 & 1988 Olympics. Unless you were a figure skating fan at the time, it really is hard to put into words how famous, gorgeous, charismatic, dramatic, et al Katarina Witt was ~ only Sonja Henie compares to her in my humble opinion ~ Witt had it all (huge understatement)! In fact, if one takes a look at ALL the Olympic Champions throughout history, the one thing that stands out the most/separates them from the rest of the pack is C-O-N-F-I-D-E-N-C-E. Katarina had it in spades...

You're a harpist? How wonderful! I've always thought that harps make musical notes sound like rays of light. Thank you for the compliment about my "harp knowledge"! I am not a harpist, alas. But I love music so much, and I do a lot of poking around in music stores and on the radio. (And now on YouTube!) During my various explorations, I happened upon all the wonderful harp music. There's also a certain amount of baroque material, but I prefer the Romantic repertoire for this instrument.
