 didn't know he did ballet for so long. so don't give all the credit of his Elegy performance to Kathy Johnson, the foundation had been laid long before she came on the scene! I recall Tracy Wilson said Patrick had good lines when he was only 14.

I think he was being a good kid to learn piano and ballet as his wise parents understood their importance for his skating. He got a very good foundation as a result as evidenced in the musicality and sophistication of his skating even at an early age. He dropped the lessons later to focus on skating. Lately though, it's his own initiative to further his dance lessons, driven by his desire to improve and refine the performance aspect of his skating and the appreciation of the value of dance training to that end, especially since it was an epiphany from watching Baryshnikov videos that propelled his quad to an easy consistency. Now that he has mastered the blades, he wants to master the whole body. The highly refined dance quality is clearly exhibited in his Elegie performance.

Here is Elegie as filmed from a perspective different from the usual:

This part of Akiko Suzuki's interview from her new thread is too good to keep out of Patrick fan thread:

When put on the spot about whether she liked Takahashi's programs over two-time defending world champion Patrick Chan of Canada, Suzuki thought for a moment and provided some interesting perspective.

"I prefer Daisuke's programs over Patrick's, but Patrick has really accurate edge work," she observed. "It seems sometimes like he has a turbo engine on his edge. That's how fast he is and how much speed he has. It just flows. He has very deep edges. He is very accurate on where to put his edges on the ice. That's why he is so strong with his edge work and footwork.

"Patrick is improving on how to express his emotions, but I prefer the originality of Daisuke's programs. But I understand why Patrick gets such high scores despite the mistakes he makes.

"If you ask other skaters to do the same things with those transitions in their programs, it's impossible. From the first step it just starts flowing, he gets up to speed. He is very accurate."

Suzuki suggests that skating judges today are better able to assess the quality of performances because they have been there themselves.

"I personally think that today many of the judges are former skaters and ice dancers who have done compulsory and school figures," she said. "By having more of these kind of judges, they know how accurate Patrick and the footwork of other skaters are. If they do the right thing, they get the scores that they deserve."

Patrick is indeed a skaters' skater. They get it even if many fans don't.

Patrick learned piano and ballet as he did figure skating as a kid. He has always had that musicality and sophistication, never juniorish even before he acquired all the technical skills. Compare his skating at 17 to the best 17 year olds today and you can see the difference.

People have been giving all the credits to Jeff Buttle for Elegie but its exquisite beauty is really in the execution and the performance. A lot of credit should go to Patrick's skills and to Johnson for his beautiful lines, rhythm, and the way he takes the time for every detail.

Baby Patrick is too cute! It is true the eyes never change, he got a 'Lin' (sharp/spirited) look about him when he was a kid. I didn't realize he used to dance at National Ballet of Canada in Toronto, must be in the nut cracker. It would be good if he get inspired again now he is back.

I am wondering if his background means he is similar to Mao in that they are particularly suited to certain genre of style and music, since ballet dancers usually have their own internal sense of rhythm and aesthetics.

Just leafing through the June issue of Toronto Life and have come across the 'Reasons to Love Toronto' and PC is number 9 on the list of 30 :)

Don't think it's online, but when I searched the mag I came across this (which I thought was cute and which I realize is from 2010 meaning everyone's probably already seen it).

And came across this from Spark (a young shaggy-haired PC with Mr. Colson looks a little bit like Hanyu)

Patrick looks damn good in a suit!

Yes he does, as shown on the pages of International Figure Skating.

The only other images of him in a suit that I know of are this goofy one with Tessa and this one I linked before at a fundraising dinner. Of course then there was the time he was all spiffy as an escort for Rachael.

However, I don't think further relationship with Harry Rosen would work out considering his penchant for dressing casual when others dress up, such as at gala banquets and press conferences.

His latest twitter with a photo with Rick Hansen:

Oh, BTW, Boeing, I found one of him at Yuna's ATS last year. This I'm sure you can see ;):
