didn't know he did ballet for so long. so don't give all the credit of his Elegy performance to Kathy Johnson, the foundation had been laid long before she came on the scene! I recall Tracy Wilson said Patrick had good lines when he was only 14.
I think he was being a good kid to learn piano and ballet as his wise parents understood their importance for his skating. He got a very good foundation as a result as evidenced in the musicality and sophistication of his skating even at an early age. He dropped the lessons later to focus on skating. Lately though, it's his own initiative to further his dance lessons, driven by his desire to improve and refine the performance aspect of his skating and the appreciation of the value of dance training to that end, especially since it was an epiphany from watching Baryshnikov videos that propelled his quad to an easy consistency. Now that he has mastered the blades, he wants to master the whole body. The highly refined dance quality is clearly exhibited in his Elegie performance.
