and making too many mistakes is more costly now... I think chan will only stick to his layout from last year (2X4T and 2X3A) in the aim of going cleaner and cleaner. So yes, it will be interesting as some will have risky programs and some will probably aim for being cleaner. It will be exciting !
Oh yes, I completely understand. I am just surprised that it is almost a consensus; instead of having some predict him higher and some lower
If talking about scoring potential, clean hanyu is mid 320s to 330, clean javi is low/mid 320s to high 320s (idk why, i still think the judges won't make him break hanyu's WR even if he's clean, just my feeling), clean chan is low 300 to mid/high 300 (if he include 2nd 3A maybe 310ish), clean shoma is mid/high 290s to maybe low/mid 300s (with 5 quads and 3 3A), clean boyang is high 280s to low/mid 290s (with last season's layout).

Though when talking about 5-6 quads it is impossible to be clean each time. Thus the rankings will pretty much scrambled up depending on who skate the cleanest, which is why doing prediction will likely be off. (Though i think Javi/Yuzu will likely still be 1/2 with 1-2 mistake, unless they royally screw up, which is also not impossible)

I thought Chan already had 3 4T in total since 4CC? Why would he downgrade his layout? :scratch2:

variety would be nice but when looking at the line up, just at skate canada, with Yuzu and Patrick, and all the others, where will Daniel fit in? just one example... I think it will be actually quite tough for anyone to qualify except perhaps yuzu and javi... it will certainly be exciting.

Patrick should qualify easily (and even get on the podium at GPF and Worlds easily) if he just does what he does. I garner he's really a lock for third even with a mistake...

I guess your crystal ball is much clearer than mine :) let's hope you are right, I'd like Patrick to do very well this season :)

1-2. Javier and Yuzuru. It's really up to who performs best on the day they compete against each other. Yuzuru will have the upper hand on the technicals with the 4Lo but that also carries bigger risks.
3. Boyang. Mr. Quad Lutz seemed pretty decided on improving his PCS, and he is already very solid on the TES department
4. Patrick. Though I think no one other than Fernandez and Hanyu will get higher PCS than him, he has some technical disadvantage against the younger skaters doing multiple quads. That being said, if he delivers, I don't think the younger ones will get ahead of him. If he adds a second quad, he could move up to third. And I’m really curious about his program using Eric’s music.
5. Shoma. I'm not such a huge fan of his programs this year…but he has a 4F (that may be at the mercy of a strict technical specialist but that’s just adding another “if”) He also got very good PCS last season, even though he was fresh off juniors. His landings may not look as effortless as I would like, but he is working on them as well as on TR (that cantilever out of the 3A!)
6. I think I'm actually going to place Nathan here. I mean, Boyang proved us that 4 quads is something you can't ignore, even from a rookie. And his presentation last season wasn't bad either (I liked the SP a lot more than the FS though). I still think he won't be ahead of the more "veteran" skaters (if they deliver), but I can't wait to see how he does against Shoma, Boyang, Daniel, etc. Key points: injuries and 3A.
7. Kolyada. I think he will solidify his place as Russia’s no. 1 man. I had a really great impression of him after Worlds, I hope he gets some great programs this year. I’m excited to see him going against Daniel at Euros.
8. Jason: He is such an artistic skater, but PCS rarely win over TES :(
9. Daniel: This guy caught my eye at Euros and Jr Worlds. Another quad wonderkid we’ll need to look out for. I’m curious to see how his scores will fare up against Yuzuru’s and Patrick’s at SC.
10. Max: But he can’t afford himself to underperform or the judges will bury him :(

But well, knowing the men’s field, something crazy is always bound to happen at some point, and my prediction will surely be blown away by someone

I also think Patrick shouldn't have much trouble qualifying for the GPF. At worst, he may get two silvers, which should be enough to be in Marseille

Oh, men! Anything can happen. :drama:

1/2. Fanyunandez
3. Jin
4. Uno
5. Chan
6. Kolyada
7. Chen
8. Samohin
9-11. Rippon, Brown, Aaron in any order
Always in the mix: Kovtun, Brezina and Yan.
Biggest climber: Julian Yee of Malaysia. Very talented and only 19, he came in 21st at worlds. He's now out of his mall rink in a Kuala Lumpur suburb and with Doug Leigh in Toronto. I think we'll be seeing good things from him.

There doesn't seem to be much faith in any US Man cracking the top 5 and some don't even have them in final flight. Kind of sad to me and I hope you're wrong. ;)

I would put propably Nathan Chen there in top5-6 but first I must see him skate in senior events

Well, if his most recent SP is any indication, it's not looking good. At this point, I can only hope that he's not injured.

I hope I'm wrong, too, mrrice. I would love nothing more than to see the US men come out and tear it up this year!

This would actually be very satisfying to me. I was very happy the year that Jason placed 4th and Adam placed 8th. The only thing sad about that year was Joshua's 13th place Short Program.
