Young's ! on her flip returned here, she didn't get it for a while so I thought maybe it was fixed, apparently not... oh and Haein also got one but Haein's flip edge is her biggest issue

They’ve been obsessively calling flips all year. Either everyone has been flipping from a flat edge all along, or some judges are just being over zealous. I suspect it’s because the required jump is a flip, so they all studied up and have be calling no perfect flips left and right. Wake me up when they get to the lutz.

I hope they leave the obsessive flip calling out of the sr men's competition. Just saying. :slink: They did it earlier in season and now they are back at it again. I just don't get it.

And I'm happy with all the placements. Anna landing her 4lz internationally is a first isn't it? Or maybe not? I don't remember it being that clean before. They are going to rock in seniors.

I totally should go to sleep but my mind is too full of what-ifs, I'm annoyed at myself for being this way when both Haein and Young (esp.Young with boot problems) rocked their free skates and I should be busy being proud of them. GS needs more fans of Korean skaters to experience this turmoil of emotions like I'm going through right now

Well I love Young a ton, so today wa bitter sweet. I saw that fire and determination from the last three competitions. She fought for ever jump. I’m sooooooooo proud of her progress, especially when you think of how she started the season with that mismatched Fair Lady FS. One frigging boot problem probably cost her a medal tonight and that hurts. She was on a roll!

I hope she can take everything’s she’s learned from this season and be proud! Still thinking about her in Russia at the Winter Children of Asia competition beaming.

....

So many what ifs this season. It smarts.

Agreed. I don't necessarily think Yuna should have been above Ting in the end result and I'm very happy for Ting getting Bronze here. But Yuna clearly should have got the best PCS because she showed a beautiful performance with mature and refined interpretation of the music and had great skating skills as well. She should lead the field in PCS, with Anna and Sasha only getting better marks in the transitions part of the PCS scores. Of course, this doesn't change the overall podium places as the top three deserved their standings but it would have at least given the impression that the judges actually care what the skaters put on the ice and not just: "oh wow, high TES and powerful federation, let's give that some good PCS then".

I would have Sinitsina above Yuna in PCS. At least in PE,IN,CO.

Technical controler had some kind of fetish with flip carrots¿ Or it was just to keep the scores at juniors level

Well in all honesty Japan sending Yuna was probably perceived as a win-win... Yuna is consistent and has the content to place in the top 4-6, and there aren't any current juniors who would have higher scoring potential than her as she has a PB in the 190's. So Yuna is the best bet for them to keep their spots, except that it just narrowly didn't work out. If Yuhana had gotten just one placement higher it would have.

Meanwhile it's a win for Yuna because she is sitting exactly at #24 in the world standings, so the additional points she gets from JW would help her to qualify for GP next year. Again there aren't any other skaters who are in a better place for GP qualification and on the bubble vs. Yuna among the current juniors who can turn senior next year, so there's no reason for the Fed not to help Yuna keep her GP's.

It's seriously overzealous. Skaters who have probably never gotten a flip call in their life are getting called. I think this controller just called everything that wasn't a super duper obvious inside edge.

I agree, people have been a little mean spirited. It’s easy to forget these are real people - children in fact.

That said I don’t necessarily want GG to become sanatised. The Radinova comment was sharp but not totally without merit. Junior worlds don’t always show us the future.

I'm not asking for GS to become sanitized. I'm inviting people to not invite that sort of negative energy into their lives. It's bad karma.

Joking aside, I will always find it gross for people to gleefully pray for athletes to fail. That I do find unsporting and objectionable. Sure, people can say what they want the same way I can judge them for it.

Wasn't the Lutz last year's required solo jump in the SP?

Yup. And they never called many flutzes the way their calling some of these Flips.

Especially since Sasha obviously has no unclear edge on the flip. As well as other ladies. I don‘t get it why they‘re being so harsh with these calls.

Ya but she got a UR on her 4Lz + fall, a turnout on her +3Lo and an unclear edge on her 3F. She has become less consistent.

Who knows what will happen to her consistency when she turns senior?

??? The only thing that was uncharacteristic of her was the triple loop landing, everything else was expected. It's amazing that she managed to do a 4-3 and a single quad successfully. The attention mark on her 3F was total bull, the tech specialist should not be handing out those flip calls. She has failed quad lutz multiple times this season, and if you see her skates last season her consistency wasn't iron solid all the time. She's growing but still maintaining her jumps.

I had to sleep so missed the skate. Unfortunately the stream is not yet up on the ISU archives? Weird. Glad my faves seem to have made it out alright lol. Cheers to Ting, and yay Canada has 2 spots now!

The stream here keeps breaking down. Yes, it was nice to see Ting on the podium and despite a less than stellar competition Schumacher pulled out a top ten and two sp ots for Canada - now they have to do something with it.

I was so afraid to watch Ting after her meltdown at 4CC. I actually got up from my computer and made lunch. Then I came back with trepidation to see her marks---and was thrilled!

This year is the first in recent memory where all of the JW disciplines have been successful for the US.

Men: Gold for Tomoki. 1+8=3 spots for 2020 JW; #1 country=2 men in every JGP.
Ladies: Bronze for Ting. 3+7=3 spots for 2020 JW; #2 country=2 ladies in every JGP.
Dance: A small bronze medal for N/K; 4+7=3 spots for 2020 JW; #3 country=2 teams in every JGP.
Pairs: 5+6 = 3 spots for 2020 JW; #3 country=3 teams in every JGP with pairs.

She also two footed her 3Lz+3Lo but not obviously the tech panel didn’t notice that. I don’t know what’s happened to this combo all of a sudden. But I don’t think she’s becoming inconsistent because her quads are still very good - they’ve been on and off all season and yeah she still did two here

Congrats Tiny Boss

I’m really sad I’ve been unable to partake in the fun this weekend but life works out that way sometimes. Can’t wait to see what’s next for this young Padawan :hap85:

lol I'm usually all about the edge calls but I have never seen such ridiculous calling on the inside edge of the flip.
