It has been known why they didn’t compete. They are in the USA and hoping to get Green card for Smolkin (Davis has US citizenship) so they couldn’t leave the USA. They said that the reason why they left Russia was that he didn’t want to be sent to fight in Ukraine. The gossip was that they planned changing the country they compete for, it might be USA or Israel.

Seems unfair to them not to be on the regular team; she only missed because of pregnancy, and they're clearly the country's top dancers. Hopefully not a big deal to them and that they still have the funding they need.
