The 2022 Ondrej Nepela Memorial is the fourth in a series of 10 events of the 2022-23 Figure Skating Challenger Series and is scheduled to take place in Bratislava, Slovakia, September 30 - October 1, 2022, at the Ondrej Nepela Arena. The event will feature three figure skating disciplines (Men, Women, and Ice Dance).

If the requirements specified in the above-mentioned documents are fulfilled, the event will count towards ISU World Standing Points, Minimum Total Technical Score, Challenger Series in Figure Skating Ranking and Prize Money.

The Challenger Series is an International Figure Skating Series, introduced during the 2014-15 season. Through ISU support, the objective is to ensure the proper and consistent organization and conduct of up to 10 International Competitions linked together within the Challenger Series. The Series gives adequate opportunities for many skaters to compete at the international senior level and earn World Standing Points. The Series also increases the opportunity for Officials to officiate at an international level.
To be considered for the Challenger Series, the competition must have at least three disciplines (Men, Women, Pair Skating, Ice Dance) from a minimum of 10 different ISU Members in all disciplines combined.

Entries are out! Some very promising names, out there:
- in women, Mae Berenice Meite, Haein Lee, Isabeau Levito (y)
- in men, JunHwan Cha, Deniss Vasiljevs, Gabriele Frangipani and Nikolaj Majorov (y)
- in ice dance, Fear/Gibson, Lajoie/Lagha, Orihara/Pirinen, Brown/Brown (y)

In the meantime, I'm still searching for any polite or understanding words regarding Japanese Federation, who, unsurprisingly, stayed true to their word and sent noone. But I find none.

And again no CAN ladies. If we don't send them they won't have their Mins if needed and they won't have experience. With the way Maddie is skating this year we could have a new champ who then might be scrambling to get the Mins at the last minute. It happened with Maddie when she 1st came on the scene.

who can they send? Gabby is recovering from injury. Allison isn't exactly ready and probably already has minimums. Some of the other women are doing JGP... which is running in parallel, so tough to be doing Senior challengers at the same time... The issue really is that there is not much depth. Maddie is great and hopefully will get things together after a rough outing this week... I guess Skate Canada is counting on her and Gabby ?

True but there is Medland-Spence and Tobin who both did well at Nationals last year. Both beat Pereira at Nationals and she has several international assignments - including a SR event. And yes Tobin has had one already and did not do too well - but she will only get better if she is sent out more.

I do wonder if the ISU will bother to update the entries list before the competition? By this point only Lajoie/Lagha are coming from Canada.

I'd be really surprised if Fear/Gibson show up as they were flying back to Canada after Nebelhorn.

:giggle: I just spotted my favourite Italian policeman Gabriele Frangipani as well as Russian-turned-Polish cactus Vladimir Samoilov on the entry lists. Should I dare to put them into my predictions? I think I'll go for it, after the Nebelhorn disaster it probably doesn't matter anyway. :p

The men will be interesting, not only because 1. and 2. are close, but also because both Deniss Vasiljevs and Junhwan Cha are wonderful to watch in a more artistic sense (think Junhwan's great Ina Bauer for example beautifully fitting in the choreography). Let's hope Gabriele keeps his nerve because he can score high also! Thanks for the list @AlexRus !

Perhaps they could improve but I personally wouldn't be in a rush to send either internationally. I don't see enough in their jumping consistency and arsenal ... I think for women, Skate Canada needs to unfortunately focus on juniors.
