The TBD spots for NHK Trophy 2023 have been announced-

Men: Tatsuya Tsuboi
Women: Yuna Aoki
Pairs: Yuna Nagaoka/Sumitada Moriguchi

(adding: the men & women's entries were decided, based on a closed-door selection at the end of Jul; as for the pair, the team submitted a video for JSF's review)

Lorraine McNamara / Anton Spiridonov (USA) received the spot.
So happy for them!

Edit: I wish it didn't come at the cost of an injury. Not happy an injury occurred for the replacement to happen.

Riku Miura / Ryuichi Kihara (JPN) have withdrawn from NHK Trophy as well:
https://www.skatingjapan.or.jp/common/img/info/23gpnhk_miura_kihara.pdf

The next 10 teams on the replacement list are:
Roscher/Schuster (GER)
Beccari/Guarise (ITA)
Caldara/Maglio (ITA)
Mokhova/Mokhov (USA)
Zhang/Yang (CHN)
Vouillamoz/Giniaux (FRA)
Vaipan-Law/Digby (GBR)
Gamez/Korovin (PHI)
Piegad/Strekalin (FRA)
Simioli/Zarbo (CZE)
I'm expecting the Japanese fed to chose either of the top 2, as they often do when it comes to replacements.

In addition to Miura/Kihara, Emily Chan / Spencer Akira Howe (USA) have been withdrawn as well.

Crossing my fingers for Beccari/Guarise to get one of the free spots.

I really hope that Beccari and Guarise get one of the spots. They would have a chance of making the GP final if they did. It would feel a bit cruel, in that context, if both spots went to other pairs.

Kinda like with Kaetlyn Osmond after she won SC back in like 2014.

Guarise already made a public comment about how angry he was they weren’t named already to other vacant spots

I can kind of understand it for some of the others, where selecting B/G could have jeopardised the host country's chance of getting a pair into the GP final (although I don't really agree with it). Japan have no chance of having a pair qualify now that R/K have withdrawn for both GPs, so there really is no reason to not select B/G.

I hope Liu/Nagy gets one of the spots.
There was some discussion about this after Skate America. I said there that I hoped they would get another slot. However, they apparently aren't eligible to be selected for any of the other GPs (Skate America can lower the requirements when picking skaters from its own Federation). They needed to win one of the events in this year's challenger series events to be eligible. That is provided that the Japanese Fed follow the ISU rules in selecting the replacements. Sometimes the host federations do not do so, but I have a feeling that Japan usually does.
