2024 ISU International Adult Competition | Oberstdorf | May 12-17

The 2024 ISU International Adult Competition will take place May 12-17, 2024, in Oberstdorf, Germany. The competition is for adult skaters who have reached at least the age of twenty-eight (28) and Synchronized skaters at least the age of twenty-five (25) before July 1st preceding the event but have not reached the age of seventy-eight (78) before July 1st preceding the competition.

Midori ITO (JPN) is entered again this year!!!

Apart from her, the only names I recognised are Liubov SAVINOVSKAYA (CYP), who I made a mini Fan Fest profile out for last season, and Grainne WRAY (IRL), who I came across a few months ago when looking up something else.

That said, there are a few other names that I think I should know...

Does anybody know what the schedule is? Because it is not at the bottom of the Entries / Results page.

Yes, I posted a link to the Provisional Time Schedule PDF a few weeks ago, but I know there was at least one updated version since then that I didn't bother linking to because I was expecting further revisions. However, now that the Entries / Results page is up, the links to the Time Schedule PDF and the Entries PDF have been removed from the Event Website.

To confound matters, the Time Schedule PDF's for the individual competitions are not working.

I have a kid (it seems strange using that terminology for an Adult skater!) that, according to the Provisional schedule, is competing today. And it would be helpful to know for sure what sort of time her competition is being held.

Day 1 of the ISU International Adult Competition is all about the Artistic Free Skates. And it starts with a double-bill of combined competitions for the IV + V skaters. 9 Silver ladies; followed by a group of 3 Bronze gentlemen. The 9 ladies are arranged into a group of 4; followed by a group of 5.

My goodness!!! Has Alessandra TAGLIABUE (ITA) brought her entire village with her?! There are 13 people with her waiting for her results!

One of them has her face painted, so I suspect she will be competing later on. And doing a spooky programme.

Problems for Gail TUDOR (GBR). First the music started prematurely when she was still getting introduced.

Then after she got into position, the music started again, and she started skating, but then stopped, and went over to the panel. And there was a pause for a few minutes while she went over to talk to the person controlling the music.

Then the same thing happened again!

I have no idea what the problem is. But, she's not happy.

Third time lucky.

Yep, she got the whole way through the third time the music started.

She goes into 2nd position.

Ah, now for somebody I recognise from other Adult competitions I've watched. Jana PŘIBYLOVÁ (CZE).

Not even 12 hours after the Grand Final of Eurovision 2024 finished, Jana PŘIBYLOVÁ (CZE) was skating to the song that won Eurovision 1976, "Kisses For Me" by Brotherhood Of Man (GBR).

No doubt about it. My favourite skate so far.

Really surprised she didn't go into the lead. She went into 2nd position.

EDIT: Now everything makes sense. Given how good she was, I suspected that she was an elite level skater when she was younger. Well, she was the Bronze Medallist at the 1984-85 Czechoslovak Championships; the Silver Medallist at the 1985-86 Czechoslovak Championships; and the Silver Medallist at 1986 Prague Skate (in the days when there were Senior competitions on the bill, before it became a Junior GP).​

More music problems for the final skater in this group, Gabriele ERMONEIT (DEU). She was standing in position for ages before it started!

But, it was worth the wait. I enjoyed that.

Mind you, she was skating to "New York, New York" by Frank Sinatra, and there was an awful edit in it.

We stay with the IV + V skaters, but move from the Silver Ladies to the Bronze Men. And this is the start of a triple bill of Bronze Men's competitions, taking in all the age categories. A group of 3 Bronze IV + V gentlemen; followed by a group of 5 Bronze III gentlemen; followed by a group of 3 Bronze I + II gentlemen.

@elektra blue and @labgoat - we definitely have a new nomination from the first of the gentlemen skating at the ISU Adult International Competition. Mario MANNS (DEU), and his wings.

Actually, weird though the costume was, it fitted the theme. And I really enjoyed that programme. We need more Neil Diamond in figure skating.

And he was swiftly followed by a Swiss gentleman wearing a full suit and tails!

Andreas JÄGGI (CHE) looked really elegant. But, I can't say I was a fan of his music (it was a bloke singing in French).

I reckon that was a couple of his grandchildren at the front of the results area holding a Swiss flag.

Awww. He was so excited when he took the lead!!!

We definitely need more Sweet music in figure skating!!!

Don McGEACHY (CAN) was dressed like a rocker with his T-shirt and blue jeans.

Not sure where the bicycle helmet fits into the look. Maybe he was reading the thread about dangerous elements and decided not to take any chances.

He finishes in 3rd position.

Beautiful programme to start us off from Heiko KUMKAR (DEU).

And he was followed by Kazuo OKADA (JPN), who was skating to "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" by Tight Fit. And although the costume had nothing to do with lions (it actually reminded me of one of Liza Tuktamysheva's costumes!), at least it wasn't a tiger costume.
