PRESS CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHT
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mf5eepZGJaA

SHOW INTRO FILM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjuvExx7WJg

They have a great cast this year full of world medalists. Lead by Stephane Lambiel, Kurt Browing, Javier Fernandez, Carolina Kostner, Davies/White, Stolboya/Klimov, Adelina Sotnikova, Li Zijun + Johnny Weir.

http://www.chinatimes.com/realtimenews/20150706003804-260403

They did the whole press conference in Chinese Mandarin, but some highlights include the producer mention it is their 5th year in Taipei and last year was a complete soldout which comfort them great deal. They received alot of support from their sponsors including the Taipei government.

Producer mentioned Johnny was so overwhelmed with the fantastic receptions he got for 'Farewell to my concubine' program last year he demanded to do a prequel or sequel etc. The producer teased they are not sure what to do since maybe Johnny didn't know there's no sequel as the 'King' died, but they will figure 'something' out.

Turns out that 'something' is this classic Chinese song ' 爱江山更爱美人 / To love a kingdom to love a beauty more' as background music, and the role is 武媚娘 (famous Tang dynasty Empress Wu) with full on make up/costume... talk about the ultimate drag fantasy OMG :cheer2: I think the audience will go even more nuts this year than Farewell to my concubine program. This is purely fan service that Lady Gaga will approve....thrice!!! I am just looking forward to see how Johnny is able to skate in full Queen Amidala headgear. ( As a suggestion, to make it a trilogy, next year, why not try 東方不敗 with the same film OST? How about choreograph a Wuxia fight/dance scene involving other cast, wire-air fu optional. It can add an interesting dimension as Martial Artistry on ice, and make the Chinese shows an unique spectacle from other shows around the world.)

Zhao Hongbo started by introducing Javier Fernandez as the best representative of European culture in figure skating as well current world champion, under Orser who also coaches Hanyu. Kurt Browning is named as the master/maestro, chosen as group choreographer for the show. Zhao is is very grateful that some how they managed to drag him out of retirement after Kurt expressed he is done with doings shows (oh really?! no way! someone just need a break!), and he is expected to bring a new program for himself as well.

Carolina Kostner is someone they really looking forward to get, Lori Nichols was mentioned as a big long term partner for Zhao as well and together they really understand the artistry of figure skating.

Then he mentioned Adelina Sotnikova, who he described as Russia's girl prodigy, who has very good potential, she has won Sochi Bronze medal (I find this honest faux pas at 18ms18seconds morbidly hilarious . ), the presenter nodded, then Zhao noted someone was waving fast in the audience then quickly corrected himself "Oh Sochi Gold medalist". It was a genuine mistake which he quickly excused by saying he got confused with pairs. Oh well...

Davies/White was someone they always wanted to invite, especially memorable for Notre Damn de Paris program.

Once again Johnny was mentioned as a huge highlight for the show known for his amazing blend of charisma (YingYang). They wanted to do an upgrade for him, so the show is planning 2 additional pair of guys just to accompany him which audience no doubt will look forward to.

Then the presenter introduced some local talents I won't get into too much, including the 2 big singer/actress that is going to perform with Karen. From what I gather one of them is going to accompany the program with theme song for this TV historical drama series. Given Karen did a great job with the Butterfly Dance and House of Flying dagger. I am really intrigued by this program already given they don't have much time to rehearse.

Little 15 years old Karen Chan is making the news wave, have families in Taiwan. She will share her stage with 2 local singer/actress and did the press conference over the phone in Mandarin with her mum (32mins20sec). She was mentioned especially by the CEO earlier who invited her 3 months ago after her winning the bronze medal at US Nationals. Karen expressed she is "Hugely excited to able to perform with all the world class skaters and hope that one day she can be good as them." 'Big Bro' Zhao said some encouraging words for her and her girly reaction was described as cute.

One final funny thing I noticed from the show clip (produced in 3D). There're all sort of titles for the skaters, like "King of Spins ~ Stephane Lambiel!!!" For Karen Chen, it was "On ice female version Jeremy Lin ~ Karen Chen." :laugh2: (Both pride of Taiwan I guess but American!.. and yes Basketball still rules in Taiwan.)

Looks liks Javier will bring his Jman workout comedy routine.

I think so... i haven't seen Li either.. even if she appeared in the presentation film. There are several stops. Taipei is the first one I think.

Article with some nice pictures from latest photoshoot of the cast. Johnny of course get to have the nicest pose... (very Hanyu!!)

http://www.chinatimes.com/realtimenews/20150708005772-260403

The article mentioned briefly on Karen Chen's new exhibition program where she wore a Qipao inspired costume and used Chinese fans to the live performance of the Chinese historical drama song. She smiled and expressed perhaps they can consider to making it into a competitive program. May be it is just media talk, but it wouldn't be a bad idea, I still need to see the program first, but she hasn't announced her SP yet?

So is Carolina Kostner's suspension up or is this exempt? Or are we going to see a last minute snafu change.

This isn't a competition, nor is a show tied someway to IOC or ISU, so why shouln't Kostner be in there?

I thought there were weird rules about skaters who are competing in IOC/ISU events keeping their good standings when they skate with people who are not in good standing. Really I thought it was hard for skaters to do much of anything without the blessing of the powers that be, and i thought they had their hand in everything.

My post was not a judgment on her being there, just trying to understand the rules better.

Thanks for all the udates for the show.

I like this one from Kostner's Instagram: Taipei 101 photobombs Carolina selfie :p http://twitter.com/msKOSTNER/status/618418413296336896 Nice fan art, nice to see happy Carol.

Meryl's Amazing breakfast, http://twitter.com/Meryl_Davis/status/618812804347224064/photo/1 Good to wake up for the sleeping beauty.

I read an article that says artistry on ice is part of the China's pitch for Beijing 2022 bid, so it will be interesting to see how it goes rest of the tour. I wonder if HanYan and Zijun may make the China leg of the tour, as they said they were working on something for the Olympic bid for China that is why they are not able to come to Taipei.

Higher resolution of the program.

Karen did 2 Chinese popular songs. Carolina got a new program as well Bolero. Can't wait to see Johnny's program, quite curious to see Davies and White's sleeping beauty too.

No, AFAIK the only way for a skater to get in trouble with a federation or ISU is if he/she skipped a competition to skate in a show...

Maybe it's just my impression, but were you thinking about Harding situation?
There is a big difference between the two cases, because while Tonya had nothing legally impeding her to participate in event not organized by USFSF or ISU, in the aftermath of the scandal she had been declared persona non grata in the Pro circuit and there was practically no skater or organizer willing to work with her, essentially banning her from every pro competition or ice shows....

I'm no expert, but what Stitch is saying does ring bells to me. Per the USFS website:
... The eligibility rules of U.S. Figure Skating and the ISU prohibit skaters from participating in any skating competitions or events not sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating or the ISU...
https://www.usfigureskating.org/Athletes.asp?id=130

Although I don't have the ISU language at my fingertips, I do believe I recall something about skaters in good standing jeopardizing their good standing by skating in shows that employ skaters who are not in good standing.
