Many italians for sure.

Didn't like that program tbh, but I agree with Sandpiper. A godsend compared to everything else that night.

I agree with you the Olys performance wasn't the best version of Godfather program.

I think the best version and the best skating was in GPF 2004-2005 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRQqcdPJuB4 with CBC commentary I don't know who they are I don't know their voices. Very interesting commentary..and they liked it.

second best https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6GSvsVMPU8 -2005 ECH LP -Torino Brit Eurosport. Many Italians became his fan after this competition.

third: Olys prformance or this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNIENLK-tfM 2006 ECH -ESPN commentary, they also liked it.

Torino OG brought many new fans for him not only in Italy. He gained many fans in Greece, Mexico, and he has fan club in Brasilia too. In 2007 his agent and friend Ari Zakarian organized a show tour in England but Plu changed that plan because he undertook a large-scale sport show anchorman's duties. Victoria Beckham wanted to pay a lots of money if Plushy teaches their children. Plushy didn't do it. ;) Many people wrote they voted to Dima Bilan's song because of Plushy...ect.

 awesome, all these wonderful memories of Russian FS! Thank you so much for the link!

Yes, there's a lot of great content on that site. Here's a nice clip with 18-year-old Plushy and Victor Petrenko - Plushy talks about his admiration of Petrenko and Victor calls him the future of figure skating.

How wonderful, great skaters certainly recognize each other, even in the early stage. :)

Here's another version of the 04-05 GPF Godfather, with Paul Wylie, Terry Gannon, and Carruthers--but don't worry, Wylie does most of the talking here so there's less Carruthers prattling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=683FQ02vUVE (Also, is it just me, or does Terry Gannon seem oddly positive over the years? He tends to almost... subtly disagree? when Carruthers or Button are criticizing Plushenko)

I'm not a huge fan of the reworked choreography on Godfather for the 05-06 season. Didn't help that, for the two major competitions, he was sick (Europeans) or skating cautiously to maintain his SP lead (Olympics). But frankly, I'm glad he won with a near-clean program even if it was calculated, rather than if he skated an ambitious program with a fall and won anyway because everyone else sucked.

I will need to comb through that treasure trove of old videos later. Thanks, Gallavich, for the find!

I remembered this story, thus I looked it...;)
http://teleweek.ru/145852

interesting anecdotes, which in his "diary" in some Russian magazine wrote the few day ago Nikolay Baskov he was Plushy's best man on wedding)

... I remember when there was a rehearsals for the the opera "Pagliacci" in Greece, I spent almost a month in Thessaloniki. Not far away form hotel was the restaurant, where I ate every day. Once, in the conversation with the owner - the head of a noisy family, friendly Greek - and revealed that he loves figure skating and for many years he is an insane fan of Evgeni Plushenko's. Hearing that I am familiar with Zhenya, he looked at me like to some unearthly miracle: "I beg you, get his autograph for me! I so much dream about that!" And falls to his knees before me! Coming out from the little shock, I rushed to pick him up and assured that this "sacramental" autograph I will get him very soon. And indeed, after a couple of days, I brought him a gift. Not should talk, how much my assistants running throughout St. Petersburg looking for Plushenko, and still found him ... in the bath! Zhenya not only signed his name on the card, but in the Greek language written the name of the fan. Portrait of Evgeni, Greek pressed to his heart and almost cried from happiness. Do I need to say, that whole week I had lunch there for free?...

Skating highlights? Plushenko, of course. Evgeni was not ‘more of the same’ for me, which is what I expected. There was less frenetic movement, more strength in his presence, sophistication in the choreography and maturity, plus the impressive technical. Great to see him back stronger than ever.
……

Sinead Kerr:
……
The main event this year – if the crowd was anything to go by – was the Men’s. The arena was packed and the audience was excited, mainly, I think, because of the return of Olympic gold medallist and twice silver medallist, Evgeni Plushenko, who – as ever – didn’t disappoint.
We have done many shows with Evgeni and there is no doubt that he is a star in the skating world. He has a presence which is hard to define and almost impossible to imitate – as his training partner, runner up Artur Gachinski, can attest to.
Artur skated cleanly and landed more quads than Evgeni, tried his best to skated like him and in some ways is more able in the transition steps. Yet, somehow, when he finished, he was met with good applause rather than the impromptu standing ovation and wild enthusiasm following Plushenko. Many people questioned Evgeni’s comeback, but I think he proved here in Sheffield that he is still one of the best competitors ever in the sport and certainly a big draw. He is also a charmer, praising the organization and atmosphere of the event in his interview following the competition.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjMYWoitpws We love Plushenko :)

Some parts of the Greece media
http://exedrasports.gr/news/article/?aid=130663

The charmer of ice returned to his throne, not that he was ever gone for that matter. Evgeni Plushenko, the charismatic Russian with graceful aetherial movement succeeded once again to charm audiences and judges and climbed to the highest top of the podium at the European Figure Skating Championships held in Sheffield, England. He knew that all media lights would be turned on him due to his absence from major events last year. Everybody waited in the ... corner to record any slip. Eventually, he did not made them the favor.

Despite a knee injury, the Russian with blond hair - his trademark - slided on the ice with that characteristic ease of his which gives the illusion of ... convenience. For Plushenko figure skating is not just a sport, but his whole life...
The King of all comebacks
I said previously but I'll say it again. Holy Crap. Oh my goodness. The men's free programme was something else. In the big daddy of all shocking comebacks Evgeni Plushenko skated out of his skin and scored his best mark ever to win the European title for the seventh time. Seriously there aren't enough italics in the world for me to properly convey my surprise and awe at this situation. The man is unbelievable. His free skate to an amazing arrangement of 'el tango de Roxanne' was just fabulous, full of power, drama and attack and despite not having skated in a while he still looked close to swaggering, imperious best.

When he got on the ice we saw another figure skating. Plushenko's skating is the absolute best by far.I would say he is beyond any competition. It is like all the rest (skaters) are from earth and Plushenko is from another galaxy! His total score indicates exactly that chasm!

Sorry guys, I have many informations and I like to share them..

A new tv interview with Plushy was just posted. :) I think most of it is about how much better he feels now compared to 6 months ago...really wish I could understand what he says at the end about the other Russian guys though (Voronov, Gachinski, Kovtun...;))

from his official:

Except part which is already translated, Plushy also talked (again) about Sochi withdrawal and surgery. About current men's skating today, he said that Yuzuru Hanyu is skater from "another planet", that worked with him on some jump details during the show last summer because Yuzuru asked him for advice. About Russian younger skaters - will be interesting to see Artur Gachinski with new coach... about Kovtun.... maybe they can be among first 3 skaters in Europe, in World among 5th... he can not say anything specifically, because they are unstable, not consistent...

Thank you, Alba, for the videos. I'm a bit nervous about watching the NBC version because I'm afraid they'll make my blood boil (again). But at the same time I'm deadly curious.

The full men's programs, short and free, are on the official Vancouver Youtube. I'm not sure if they're accessible for those outside Canada though. Here's the gala as well.

They're not so bad. I must say Scott in particular was respectful and nice towards Plushy.

They're. We can see them in Europe because it's Olympic channel.
Those from CBC are geoblocked on youtube as well.

I just watched the SP and was pleasantly surprised! Much nicer than what I remember of the Canadian commentary.

Glad to hear the videos are available to all. ;)

I agree with him on all accounts.

He is always realist and honest. I'm sure many people angry with him because of this opinion. But this is just the truth.

My friend has just summarized for me the interview. I hope he will not consider competiting again. I'm happy enough seeing him in shows. He's already the legendary king I hope he knows he doesn't need to prove himself at this age.
