Were there not also some minor health problems during the Olympic season - at least in the fall? And boot problems (also in the fall season)? And after the Europeans at the press conference Javi speculates on going to Spain for a couple of days, but Brian was present and apparently nixed that plan right away, so Brian definitely wanted Javi back in Toronto asap after the Europeans...

Getting to participate on the tours is not necessarily possible if you are not invited, right? He did Dreams on Ice, The Ice and All That Skate in the summer of 2013 as far as I know. (Was there something else?) After winning the Europeans and with the popularity of the Chaplin program he would have been a good candidate for more tours than what he did before anyway. These all also ended fairly early - by end of July, which maybe did not make his practice season much shorter than before?

Japan Open has also fairly good money prizes which could also be a reason to go there (but it's an invitational, so it's not a question of you wanting to do it, but rather the organisers wanting to have you).

There have been no news on the line-ups for the tours he was in this year or have you guys seen anything? Though, Art on Ice at least features Lambiel, Takahashi and Amodio, so I guess Javi is not repeating that. SOI has not yet published their line-up for 2017, nor any of the Japanese tours?

I also think it might be a good idea to do a Challenger next season and get feedback on both his SP and FS. (And it seems that unlike this season, next season he will have a new SP, so getting feedback is kind of important.)
On the other hand, since Javi is probably quite used to how his recent seasons are paced now, I also hope that they are thoughtful enough when changing things for the Olympic season, so that the new changes will help him instead of throw him off.

Olympics itself make a season different, as he doesn't have a competition in February usually, so soon after Europeans (and he's not his 100% there). That means he needs to peak earlier than usually, so I think the change of pace might be needed.

Eppen, Japan Open is invitational, but you can refuse, it's not like you have obligation to compete. So far Javi didn't. I think since he's doing Madrid shiow, he might not doing any other in winter, the line ups for off season are probably not yet known even for organisers

I did not aware of his health problem in the fall of 2013, except that he was really upset for a while because of all the hate emails/message he received. Boot problem, yes, he changed two pairs of skate boots, none of them worked well, so he went back to his old ones at Euros and Olympics; In Sochi, because Brian was too busy with Yuzuru, he did not check on whether Javi properly secured his boots with duck tape; he didn't.

Anna Pogorilaya, one of my favorite skaters in the current ladies' field, complimented Javi's spread eagle in her recent interview:-

EV: Wait, you can't do a spread eagle?
AP: No. I have no idea why. this season I competed at the same competitions with Javier Fernandez several times and I was watching his LP where he was gliding on the ice with the spread eagle and I thought `god, it's gorgeous!'

Seems that Javi will be skating in NYC in the Dec 2 free ice show for the Bryant Park tree-lighting :dance2:.

Hat tip to Mango, who mentioned tonight that Weaver/Poje are scheduled for the show ... leading me to nose around for more information.

The article above says that Kimmie Meissner also will perform.
And I expect that Johnny Weir will too, as he recently was announced as the first-ever Skating Ambassador for Bryant Park (and has performed in previous ice shows there).

Oddly, the tree-lighting is not listed yet on the Bryant Park calendar, but I assume that it will be added before long.

(Sorry if this event already was mentioned in this thread.)

Got you ;)

How do you see/analyze this season?
It's a very important season because I have to revalidate a lot of titles. At the competitions, people will see me as one of the favorites and I need to have a great in all of these competitions. Training is still hard, competing against athletes, against skaters who have a lot of talent and i need to be at 100%. I need to go and compete and try not to let anyone go above me in these competitions.

Does the fact that is a pre-olympic season plays a role?
It does, because even though it's not the olympic season, it's the pre-olympic season. And for us it's important to keep track of our results, how we have improved the last few years and how we can keep growing before the big olympic season. Specially, we need to check our physical condition, our mental condition, if it changes with time or not. Specially because the Olympic season is one of the most important for us.

Regarding your new program, you're bringing Elvis back? (making it popular)
Well, I don't know if I'll make it popular or not, but that's going to be my FS, my Elvis choreography and music. This program is very hard, there's a lot of work put in it. And we hope that with this program we can create something as good as last year's programs. And that the people carries a great impression at every competition I'll be at.

Are you still going to try the hardest? (not sure what they mean here, perhaps element? Or just a hard program in general?)
Well, year after year, I evolve as an athlete, as a performer, I little but of everything. In figure skating we want to increase our level a bit every year, whether it's technical level or artistic level. We always want to set ourselves challenges to meet.

What message would you send to the audience following figure skating through Eurosport?
That they follow us, the skaters. We'll be there competing, we'll try to do a great job and keep getting the medals we're getting right now. They are very important competitions at a very high level, it will be very close among the skater who are at the top, and that they enjoy it. That they sit in front of the TV, watch the competitions and enjoy the experience.

Would you like to send a message to athletes from other disciplines on their way to the 2018 WOG?
Yes, of course. Specially because I know how hard it is (being there) every season, qualifying for the Olympics. And to everyone who want to qualify and are trying to get to the Olympics in Korea, the best for their trainings and their competitions. They are athletes with a lot of talent, I know they can do it, and we'll meet there.

Thank you very much, ice coverage, for sharing this information with us  this event has yet posted, it is interesting that Javi is able to come down to the NYC for the tree-lighting; IIRC, this would be the last weekend before he heads to France for GPF. I am pleased that Javi has been keeping his lay back attitude in-between the competitions, which may be helpful for him to take his mind off the competition to come.

Thank you so much, xibsuarz, you are brilliant

I thought it was 2013 fall and some problem with his feet/knees was mentioned by a commentator during a competition, but browsing through what I have, I wonder whether it was some other year after all... I'll see if I can find it.

NYC is sort of on the way to Marseille, so a stop there before flying over the Atlantic would probably not mess with his preparation for the GPF. Well, let's hope so...

The cooking show is now online: http://www.disney.es/disney-channel-un-dos-chef/programas/programa-11 He got some crabcakes and seems to have been fairly pleased with them...

Thanks for the translation, xibxuarz!

Hmm, try going directly to the website and try from there? It does not appear to be geoblocked - I watched it from a different (European) country.

Some vid from Nashville with snippets of Javi in group numbers: Sheryl Crow and Real Gone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOE7YZG6EEI&t=154s, a compilation of Sheryl Crow songs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=se51i5BozW8 and a vlog on the whole show https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q36Zds1knqw

But nothing from his solo to Sheryl Crow (and all the Crow songs have been uploaded :( )...

The cooking thingy now in YT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twRcQrNzjNY

Plus as a bonus, a glimpse of the Morozov days - a news item on a show in Russia in 2011 with all his students. Miki, Voronov and Amodio get inteviewed, but Javi flashes by doing his short for that season: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wo6xPLAgess

thanks a lot, eppen, for the links, while I can open the cook channel, it is always pleasing to view the clip without popping up commercials.

Whoa, Javi was so cute, dressing in sailor striped t-shirt, which is one of my favorite patterns. It is understandable that he did not get individual interview, since he was not as success as other students of Morozov's camp, nor he is one of Russian skaters.

Miki does have some linguistic talent, and she is also brave enough to communicate with others in English, I recalled Oda also speaks English fairly good, but at Miki's level.

A repost of 2014 worlds' men sp press conference, in case eppen or someone else missed it
