RD, I don't know who posted this. But I borrow it from your quote.

That's the point of 'setup'. I said it similar in another thread. Her last worlds' SP score made any (higher) score of her SP in future looks justifiable to the public........just like Carolina's 2004 Worlds' LP score made any of her future (higher) score justifiable......I'm not saying they will not deserve the higher score they got in future competetions when they skate well.

Mzeng, that was RD quoting me. So I will ask you this question. It seems like in your opinion, the "conspiracy" to prop Irina up started last season? Or did it start before last season? Just wanting to understand your opinion about when the "hold up Irina in PCS" judging conspiracy started?

You know what? It doesn't matter to me how they score her or if she's clean. I am without a doubt A Sashist!!!! There isn't another woman I'd prefer to watch & she is always coming up with new moves on top of doing the standards like a layback as well as they can be done. I do agree she has fallen into the Kwan-6.0 hole of jump difficulity but I think she will up the value by Olympics. I'm with her no matter how she finishes!!

i don't think it's a conspiracy...i think the judges just love her skating. i don't really GET her...to be corny...her skating doesn't make my heart SING...so sometimes it seems to me that she's ovem,arked...when i'm sure it's legitimately judged.

Based on the video clips:

Asada: WOW, what a great pleasure to watch her beautiful and effortless looking skating! She shows such a joy, the coming years will be really interesting with her and Kim competing. LOL, it does not happen that often that a junior skater who cannot even compete at Olympics yet, wins in a GP event over a Worlds gold medalist and two-time Worlds silver medalist...

Cohen: Such a pleasure to watch her elegance on the ice!!! This is very early in the season for her, and I think it is better for her not to be quite ready, yet. Considering her scores, maybe there should be some tweaking done in her choreography... There is still time for that. Beautiful costume!!!

Arakawa: I really love her programme and skating so much!!! WOW, it will be wonderful to watch her at the Olympics as she will be totally ready. This moment I believe that also her choreography needs some tweaking to get higher PCS scores.

Meissner: Well, I don´t know... She was on the ice skating and the music was playing, but there was nothing in that combination to really impress me, to remain in my thoughts. She is still a junior skater and rather wooden, I would say.

Rochette: She has beautiful music, but unfortunately is incapable of interpreting it the way it would deserve. Very nice costume.

How could Sasha fell on the triple salcow? It's her most solid jump. She even practiced quad salcow. Mao is a lovely girl though and has mastered all the jumps.
Asada flutzes, although that has never been held against Cohen, Suguri, Goebel, etc.

Cohen had some footwork going into the Salchow, which was quite nice, but it was as if she pulled back and was tentative going into the jump.

And once again, Mao wins solely on the TES mark. BOTH Shiz and Cohen outscored Mao on everything else.
Asada won because her PCS were, in my opinion, inflated, perhaps except in interpretation in the LP, and these kept her in the running, even if they weren't as high as SC's or SA's. (I didn't like her cutesy interpretation, but she did do it well. She has expressive hands. I didn't get to Paris until Saturday, so I can't comment on the SP until I'm able to download it.) Her jumps were on, but her spins, spirals, and footwork were lacking, although having a Biellmann seems to add luster to GOE on just about every spin. There is no comparison to Arakawa's flow, power, and control or to Cohen's dramatic impact and phrasing. I think the judge in column 1 had the relative scores correctly, with Arakawa over a point ahead in each PCS category, and Cohen about a point ahead of each. (S/he also gave Meissner and Asada equal scores in skating skills, which is closer to the mark. Meissner moved very well.)

That's music to my ears. There is no such credibility that a gold medal means more than 'the best that night'. A favorite is a favorite regardless of the medals.

BUT- it seems like Cohen has a one-jump advantage over Slutskaya. Can she fully utilize that advantage? She's going to HAVE to land all seven of those jumps to win the OGM.
I think that one-jump advantage will disappear when Irina puts in her triple-triple.

Does anyone know if Kimmie or Alissa had the most level 4 non-jump elements?
Aissa, three level 4s to Kimmie's two.

Hi Attyfan. For the answers to all possible questions of this sort, from here

http://www.goldenskate.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=83

click on "Entries/Results" under the event, then on "Starting Orders/Results at the bottom of the page, then "Judges scores (pdf)" in the right-hand column under the segment that you want to see.

At Skate Canada, in the non-jump elements Alissa had

Flying sit spin level 4
Camel combination spin level 2
Flying camel spin level 3
Straight line step sequence level 1
Spiral step sequence level 4
Layback spin level 4

At Eric Bompard, Kimmie had

Camel Combo spin 4
Layback spin level 2
Spiral step sequence level 3
Flying sit spin level 4
Straight line stepsequence level 2
Flying combo spin level 3

For comparison, at TEB Mao had

Combination spin level 3
Straight line step sequence level 2
Flying Camel spin level 2
Layback spin level 3
Spiral step sequence level 3
Camel Combo spin level 1

The leaders so far are

Asada 21 (holds the second tie-breaker over Czisny)
Czisny 21
Sokolova 15
Rochette 14 (holds the first tie-breaker over Arakawa)
Arakawa 14
Slutskaya 12 (one event yet to come).
I think we can assume that Irina will get in the top 6 (bumpbing Shizuka).
Onda with 7 points also has a good chance of placing high enough in Russia to bump Rochette.
Mote interesting is how NHK will go. Without the leaders, it can send someone unexpected to GPF by giving those 12 1st place points to someone without too many. We could see Liashnko, or Costner, or Suguri... the possibilities are endless ;)

Mathman - I really do appreciate your taking the time to do these comparisons. They are more than just interesting. They actually say a lot about the skaters.

What I would also like to read is the name and nationality of the caller. I don't think that is secretive, and doesn't the Caller call out the levels as well.

You know me, I would compare the Callers as well.

Arakawa's spiral in the LP was the most impressive one I've ever seen live. Every position was rock solid, and the way she did not drop an inch once she let go of extreme supported positions was astonishing. Her edges were beautiful, she lost no speed at all, the transitions between the positions were controlled, she had complete control over her descending leg, and she went right up into the catchfoot, without shifting edges on her blade. Just exquisite.

I'm just catching up for the day, so someone else may have already shared this. Ando still has two events to go and could be a "spoiler" in here somewhere. I thought Volchkova still had two to go, but when I looked at standings yesterday, it seems she might be down to one event now? Or maybe I looked too fast and misread things. If she does skate both NHK and COR she is a possible spoiler too, but IMO probably less chance than Ando.

ETA: Apparently sad news for or about Volchkova. I just double checked the GP entries and standings links which can be found here.

http://www.isu.org/vsite/vnavsite/page/directory/0,10853,4844-136494-137802-nav-list,00.html

On the "Ladies Entries" selection at the bottom of the screen, Volchkova appears to have withdrawn from both COR and NHK. :( If anyone has seen news on this, I hope you will post. I was looking forward to seeing her as I'm sure many fans were. Hope she's OK.
