I am proud of joannie and fumi. Poor Kostner I hope she's feeling alright.
Zhang still has a good chance to medal for the US ladies.

So far my predictions are in the ballpark except for Kostner and I don't mind that at all (though sorry for her and hope she's OK):

Ladies:
Kostner (I won't agree, but she always gets the points)
Zhang
Rochette or Suguri

Totally bummed by Carolina's score that I forgot Alissa made the final group.
I just hope everyone skater better tomorrow.
Congratulation Joannie!

As bad as I feel for CaroK, how is it even possible that she gets the highest PCS of the day with not a single clean jump and falls all over the place?

Joannie had the highest PCS, 28.04 to Carolina's 25.76.

I agree, not that great of a showing today. Maybe only one or two highlights, but even then, they were only good compared to the rest of the competition.

I think we started the GP with the highest level of competition at Skate America.

And yes, Joannie did get a little home court advantage working for her.

Caroline looked out of it in the warm-up, too. She didn't look sharp, like she was affected by nerves/anxiety/lack of sleep (too young for that, isn't it?) . And she didn't attack the 3F in the SP. Actually, the landing looked okay (though might still be border-line downgradable), she just didn't look like she had the confidence or energy to pull it through. It was smart to add the 2T to 3R (like Mirai last week at SA), since she'd already gotten -3 for the 3Z anyway (lack of footwork into it cannot affect GOE.

Poor Caroline.

And now who complained about how poor the skaters were at Skate America......
This is much worst than cup of China last year and so boring that I felt asleep on the keyboard.
I like Fumie's new look and choreograph this year.
Joannie's score is a bit 2-3 overinflated.
Caroline, could her jumps go worst ? Her triple loop was like jumping on the ice, not above the ice.
The other .....nothing to say more.....hope free programs keep me awake throughout the competition.

And The CoC actually had really suspicious ice quality, so the skaters shouldn't have taken all the blame. Here, it's clearly not the ice, but the mediocre performances from the skaters.

Maybe I should be happy that I can't view it. It sounds like a "DVR fast forward through the whole thing competition" to me.

I am starting to doubt that she will ever gain jumps back. It looked almost as though she is afraid of jumps.

McCorkell

- Very solid jumper, and not too bad as an artist. Very impressive.
- Her costume is of Egytian theme and goes well with her athletic body.

Samson

- Her edge work has tremendously improved. She was also very tentative going into jumps.

Not a good day for Canadian ladies...

Alissa Czisny

- Beautiful skate, but she went down hard on 3 lutz.

Nana Takeda

- She skated to a powerful music, which really suited her.
- She doesn't seem to gain any new jumps over the off season.

Beatrisa Liang

- She started off very fast to a very upbeat, fast music, but a fall took a steam out of her and she was constantly behind the music afterwards.

Glebova

- She had a terrible fall during the warm-up and then she went down hard on the exactly same spot where she fell during the practice.
- She is a pretty skater.

Caroline Zhang

- Still noticeably slower than other skaters, and lack in ice coverage.
- She flutzes and then fell hard.
- She wore a pretty baby blue dress, which looked very much like last year's.
- Her spins are second to none: and she got a big applause during the pearl spin.
- She definitely shows promise.

Jenni

- I think the nerves got the better of her. She will have a better day.

Suguri

- She executed one element another with precision. Her artistry is second to none and her tenacity finally paid off. She is a pro.
- She was also very popular among the crowd.
- You see the same competitive fire she showed during her hey days of her career.

Joannie

- Her 3-3 didn't come through, as she overrotated 3flip.
- There is freedom and passion with her routine: it looked as though you are looking at a new Joannie.
- There is a sheer strength and power with her 3Lutz and 2A.

Carolina Kostneer

- Her jumps are awesome; however, I think she seems to slightly underrotate her jumps and land 2-footed.
- I think I will enjoy her routine (Tango); as the season progresses and she becomes more comfortable with it.
- The two falls are very unfortunate. It looked almost as though she caught something.

Joannie's SP was the best, but over-marked IMHO, considering that turn-out after her 3F.

Oh, well. On to the long program tomorrow. I won't be surprised if there will be a total re-juggling of the standings. Carolina will probably end up on the podium anyway, and Fumie hasn't been consistent for a while now. I'm hoping that Caroline will skate clean and feel good about it. I don't care about the standings, I just don't want her to look so tired and disappointed.

Overscored or not, I just want to say that this the best I've seen Joannie "perform" a program, in years!
And all her elements besides the combo was so secure and of high quality, which is probably reflected in the high tech score. The held landing of the 2axel and the lutz were things of beauty. I think the program is a great vehicle for her to build on and I don't think a podium finish is that far fetched if she keeps the momentum going.
And hey, if Yuna can score almost 70 with a failed 2axel at SA, Joannie's 64 is not THAT bad.

I agree with the standings, although I think Fumie's PCS score should have been higher:eek:hwell:

Fumie's pcs is criminal. She shouldn't get any 5s.
2nd best Japanese lady's spot is wide open and so is world bronze.
