Shocked to see Joubert received the second lowest pcs. The crowd really seemed to love his performance (and so did I) that I just assumed he would get massive pcs. With such low pcs, I wonder what his winning chance is like. At this point, it looks certain Kozuka will have advantage over him when they both go clean. Kozuka has been amazingly consistent. But again, it's not unusual for a "rookie" to be that consistent. I wonder how he will handle with pressure of being a favorite from now on.

I liked his performance and would not mind if he had received higher PCS. But I honestly think that the crowd reaction may have been a lot to do with his popularity over there. Even if he had had flaws, he still would have received a lot of applause for his sexy moves with which the audience was really excited, even more than with his spins:). Despite Kozuka also did a wow performance, he was far less popular than Joubert, which was not his fault performance-wise.

I wouldn't be surprised if the nerves get the best of Taka. He's human and still learning to deal with big events.

I know! I love his 3A best among all the men. I am so sad that he missed it.

Can anybody confirm if Johnny indeed fell on his 3 axel? Someone who saw it on icenetworks says he just had a turn out? also did he have a 3 lip? Since when is he lipping?

I thought he fell. But I was so shocked that don't remember very well. Here's protocol. It doesnt load it on my computer right now. But you could check yourself. Re: lipping, I thought he got some attention mark or "e".

3 axel is -4.2, so that is definitely more than a turn out, his flip has a -0.8, that could be a lip indeed, thanks

Practice report from an insider at FSU saying that Joubert has a sore back and is unsure of whether he will compete (but probably will)

Johnny's 3A wasn't exactly a full fall... but almost--- turn-out with knees down and hands down. As others have said, odd to see problems with his 3A--- which are normally rock solid. Speaking of 3A's- why does he now only do 3A-2T in LP. He's been doing beautiful 3A-3T for years. And there was a downgrade on a lip/flutz (can't remember which).

Interesting competition in that most are skating well.

None of Johnny's jumps was downgraded.
And he is doinng 3T in combination in second half of LP to get more points. He repeats 3A and 3LZ, so he can't repeat 3T.

Does anyone know if Patrick Chan withdrew or not?

There was one Korean reporter from NEWSIS who seemed to started this buzz about Patrick's withdrawal.
It was posted at 20:15 (Dec 12)just right after he performed.
http://news.naver.com/main/read.nhn?mode=LSD&mid=sec&sid1=001&oid=003&aid=0002428141&

However, according to Patrick's interview, posted on SBS at 00:45 (Dec 13), his mistakes might have been due to jet lag, but he is looking forward to improve his standings tomorrow. Plus, there are no reports about his injury nor official announcement about his withdrawal so far.

Sorry snowgirl ... maybe you should apply for job as technical specialist ... didn't mean to say Johnny got a downgrade, but he did get an edge call.

I am a HUGE Johnny fan so don't get snarky ... I just remarked that he has ALWAYS had stong 3A-3T so why hasn't he been performing them this season?

Am I snarky? I didn't mean to.
Just didn't know that an edge call can be called a downgrade.
He has a good 3A-3T, but this season he decided to put to second part his 3Lz-3T, which is as well good (with 2T to make a 3 jump combo). Combos in second part give good points. I'm not sure he is able to do 3A-3T in the second part.

I'm now a total Abbott believer! I thought his program was elegant, sophisticated and well choreographed. Love the forward lunges....

Cheers to all the men, especially Johnny, Patrick and Jeremy.

He CAN jump. What he really needs are better spins and transitions. If not he has no chance tomorrow(today?) or in the future.
No, Joubert's spins have been mostly level 3 and 4 so far this season, so that's not where he's losing points. And the difference that you might see in the transitions score won't be more than one point, because the judges normally have a range for the top guys.

In the SP, he needs to play the CoP game with his SL steps and lean over his skates a bit more often :p. I think he was unlucky yesterday with the 0 GOE on his 4-2, unless there was something I missed. But it's a strong SP and if done right, can get him into the upper 80s (with a level 3 SL and a higher GOE on the 4-3 than he had at CoR).

Joubert does need to change the jump layout for his LP, and I sincerely hope he has done so; and to add a bit more content there - it looked sort of unfinished the last time I saw it.

I hope his problem at GPF is no more than a sore back, I'd love to have him skate as he's capable of today and then at French Nats and Euros. Though he'll probably be totally jet-lagged for Nationals...
