He's not making fun of classical music. He's having fun with classical music. Check out pianist Victor Borge sometime. He's classically trained (brilliant really) and yet he "goofs off" with the classical pieces... and it's still amazing. It's not because he's making fun of the music - which you can tell he enjoys - he's just having fun with it.
Classical music buffs enjoy PDQ Bach too. A brilliant classical musician is able to have fun with classical music and appeal to its aficionados, like sharing an inside joke. A non-connoisseur's attempt of humor with a high brow subject will easily come across as crude mocking. A skating program needs both exquisite choreography and technical excellence to get away with having fun with classical music, considering many judges are classical music lovers.
Doing it in a show without judges is a different matter, depending on the audience.
