Really?!! Are you joking me?!! Rachel Flatt won over Mirai Nagasu by like a hefty 20 points?!! This competition is so rigged.

Rigged or not, it doesn't matter now. We all have our favorites. Maybe your favorite made the team, and maybe she didn't. But the Olympic team has been chosen. As good skating fans, it is our duty to support and cheer our team.

It is a joke because all of our skaters are horrible. Let the rebuilding begin

Ugh, really sickening.

Yes, I agree. They better be consistent with last weekend's Olympic team selections and chose the top 2 for Vancouver. It's the least they could do for Mirai after she should have won this competition..

I'm glad I am not the only one p!ssed off. Sad that these US ladies (Nagasu) were too young to compete in 2008 when the US lost the spot and are now peaking when the US only has 2 spots. Talk about timing.

I agree, Mirai should have won, and after all she's been through, the growing, the crying, the injury, the underscoring, rising to the challenge when the pressure was high, she deserves the spot. I think Ashley will probably get sent to Worlds though. Does anyone know when the Olympic team will be announced for sure?

How about

1. The base value of Rachel's jumps were higher i.e 3F-3T.
2. Three of Marai's Jumps were under rotated
3. Marai got and ! edge warning on her 3Lz

Rachael seems to be the only female US skater with a consistantly clean 3Lz no edge problems. She is way on the outside edge, no question about it.

ITA!! WIth three downgraded jumps and 2 edge warnings....I really can't fathom how Flatt's victory can be disputed.

Exactly. I think Mirai is adorable and has some great qualities, but Rachael actually has a shot at cracking the top 5 at the Olys.

Plus, Rachael was majorly robbed at last year's Nats. She totally deserves this.

The question is whether Mirai's jumps should have been downgraded in the first place. Many agree that they looked better than ever, and NBC did not show much slow-motion replay.

Well she has a big history of downgrades and edge calls so I would say it is pretty likely that she deserved the penalties.

When commentators talk about Rachel, it seems the first thing they always mention is how "consistent" she is. There's nothing wrong with that. On the other hand, it doesn't sound all that great either. Technically, Rachel has the jumps. I don't think she connects with the audience the way Mirai does.

So sorry that Ashely won't be going to the Olys. Can't say I'm all that surprised by Sasha's disappointing LP.

Yeah sure, Rachel is consistent with her performances but she sure doesnt hold a candle when compared to Mirai. Mirai has the artistry, spins, spirals, posture, and footwork which Rachel lacks in. With Frank Carroll as her coach, we have already seen so much improvement in Mirai this year at Nationals. Give her a couple of seasons and I can see Mirai as one of the top of U.S. ladies skating alongside Gao as well.

Nobody deserves to win a competition because of what they've been through. You deserve to win because you skated the best. Watching Mirai, I thought she won. But I'm not a technical specialist. If her jumps were UR, and it seems they were, she deserves the downgrades. There's no question Rachael is a better jumper. I thought the competition was fair and and there are no questions of wuzrobbery here.

You are forgetting that even if Mirai's jumps were not under rotated Rachael would have won. The base value of Rachael's program was higher. Rachael beat Mirai by 12 points. In fact Ashley beat Mirai in the free skate.

The fact that NBC did not show slow motion does not mean the technical panel did not review the jumps.

What I don't understand is her 3-3 garnering that much points. The ISU judging panel would not do the same.

I sat there with a calculator and added the point values for the jumps, and I also had Rachael winning the long program by a comfortable margin. I agree with everyone on Mirai's superior artistry, but she either didn't do as many jumps or didn't do as hard as jumps, even if she got full credit for all of them.

If the jumps are downgraded in importance, it is no longer a sport. IT factor, expression, musicality and even spin positions don't vary as much between competitions as the jumps do. If YuNa (for example) is decided by the judges to be the most special in those areas, she will be the most special in all the competitions, not just one. Why would anyone else even show up? However, anyone can miss jumps and blow it, and anyone can have the clean skate of their life and beat another, even if that person has the better musicality or spin positions. That's what makes the sport, or any sport so interesting.:)

Anyway, if Mirai can get her body around 3 complete times and adds another jump, I think she could win a medal (if a couple of others succumb to the nerves, which is always a possibility). Same with Rachael. Good luck to both of them.
