Actually, I think most people are centrists. Its just that the loudest and most public are always those one the extreme left and extreme right.

well I'm extreme right and I'm loud ;)

I took that test once but they don't have what I consider myself as an option... I'm right-wing conservative... I lean republican but not always just most days ;)

I'm exactly in the middle on the Libertarian/ Statist scale, and clearly in the left on the Liberal/ Conservative scale. I really think that those left/ right labels are so misleading. For instance, I am:

1. A die hard liberal/ libertarian on social issues.
2. Traditional conservative with just a pinch of liberal/Neocon ideology on foreign policy - believe we should stay out of other countries' business (even opposed Kosovo campaign), but rejoice when, for example, Syria pulls out of Lebanon (which Bush's Secretary of State actually thought was bad) - something that would not have happened without certain US meddling.
3. Green on environmental issues. I believe srongly that it's possible to cut dependence on oil A LOT if only there was political will in Washington.
4. Conservative on education. Support standard testing, program, and uniforms.
5. Rather "consrevative" in regards to free trade and unions - like former, usually dislike latter.
6. Liberal on "safety net" issues.
7. Don't know hot to classify it on criminal justice issues - support easing up on absurd sentences, invest more in rehabilitation, ease up on drug laws.
8. Libertarian on church/ state separation. Generally it means being a "liberal" on those issues, but I also thought it was exessive that in Massachusetts Catholic charities had to close their adoption services because the state wouldn't let them discriminate against same-sex couples.
9. Socialist on medical care issues.
10. Progressive on taxation.
11. Conservative on Israel/ Palestinian issue.

You get the picture...

I was shocked at my score... far left-wing liberal...
However, as a rule, I support personal freedoms & choices but with the same rule I use at home... that if you create a mess, clean it up! But I'm anti-war, anti-oppression, anti-big business control & screw the little guy, anti-church control over the government... basically, anti-Bush.

I simply want the government to manage the affairs of state & stay outta my business... If that makes me a liberal vs. the centralist I always thought of myself, then so be it... ya gotta be something in life, i guess...

For me, it really depends on the issue.

WAR IN IRAQ - I am completely opposed to it and think they should stop the fighting!

ECONOMY - A mess, to say the least. Someone needs to clean it up.

HEALTH CARE - Should be availible to anyone

EDUCATION - They should eliminate "No Child Left Behind" because it really isn't making education better.

TERRORISM - I don't know what to think.

ABORTION - I think you should totally have the choice!

GAY MARRAIGE - It's whoever you love, and that's who you should marry

STEM CELL RESEARCH - For

CAPITAL PUNISHMENT - Depends on the case, really.....

SOCIAL SECURITY - Fine how it is

TAXES - Lower them, please.

What do you mean "they should stop the fighting"? Should America just pull out? It isn't exactly going to make Iraqis stop fighting...

ECONOMY - A mess, to say the least. Someone needs to clean it up.
That's not really the answer. How do you think it should be fixed?

HEALTH CARE - Should be availible to anyone
How exactly would you pay for this. BTW, I'm not disagreeing with you, it's just that it's easy to support something worthwhile until the real sacrifices start coming in.

TAXES - Lower them, please.
???!!! How exactly are you going to finance health care for everyone AND lower taxes. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Your other statements were very precise. BTW, I'm not trying to bash you in any way shape or form, just starting a little friendly discussion :)

Why wasn't Machiavellian a choice? ;)

Liberal-Libertarian. I'm rather left-wing on social issues, but more centrist on fiscal issues.

According to this I'm a centrist, slightly to the right, but I'm a registered Republican and in most political tests I get slightly left of center. I'm VERY socially conservative, fiscally conservative, and on environmental issues I'm like "ehhh" and kind of centrist depending. I'm pretty active in stuff like S4 (Students for Saving Social Security - check it out, we're cool kids! ;)).

I am a centrist, which is not a surprise, but I always felt I was slightly to the right. However, this test shows me slightly to the left and that was a surprise.

I guess it all depends on the questions they ask, some issues are just not present (i.e. - abortion and the Iraq war)
