I think their plan all along was to make sure Adelina won. They had way too much invested in her to not have her win. That's why they made sure Yulia did the team event and then didn't give her any space to practice for the individuals. if they truly backed Yulia you can bet she wouldn't have had to fly back to Moscow to train. The contrasts in them is so interesting...when you watch interviews you can tell that Adelina has been spoiled and groomed, she gives the typical state sponsored answers and is always smiling. Yulia is the exact opposite, she clearly hasn't been coached and says whatever she thinks. I love that part of her. It really is remarkable that Yulia has done as much as she has this past year given how little she was helped compared to others. and its amazing how we are all able to see and pick out those differences just by watching her skate and being interviewed. There's definitely something special about her.
What? The Russian Federation tossed Adelina to the side to make room for Yulia the new golden girl. And they didn't do that so Adelina could win. They did it because they thought Yulia was better even though she is 2 years younger. Having Yulia surpass her on the ice and in the eyes of the Russian Federation sure motivated Adelina a lot. They even made sure Yulia had full run in the team event while Sotnikova was crushed to get brushed to the side like that. You're looking too deeply into this. Adelina is a naturally warmer person than Yulia is. Yulia is naturally edgier with her looks of disdain and her frank words than Adelina is. I enjoy both of them. Many do.

Kind of disappointing the Russian crowds are a lot more drawn to Yulia than Adelina. But others have explained why. Yulia is easy to root for she is so tiny and charming and she has that look. She has the "It" factor. And Yulia still looks like a girl while Adelina is 2 years older and built like much more of a woman. I have no doubt that if Russians could vote which of the 2 girls they wanted to win individual gold in Sochi that 80% plus would have chosen Lipnitskaia. That would piss Adelina off too. Ade will come into next season fired up and out for blood knowing that she's the Olympic champion but still second fiddle to Yulia in Russia and abroad. It will be an interesting season. I like both girls so much and I'm glad they are friendly and get along well with each other. But Yulia's impact is massive and infectious. Her fan page here has 42 pages at this time while Adelina's only has 7 pages. Yes that would tick Adelina off too!

Um.....Adelina was held up for years!! I have no ill will toward her but lets be real. Russian fed made Adelina and Yulia made herself. To me it's as clear as day. So the fed sided with Yulia for one event. Well deserved in my books.

The bottom line is things are looking good in Russian figure skating. It's all right to pick favorites IMO.

Then you admit it! I knew you would. ;) Yes Adelina was held up for years and Yulia is self made. But when Yulia's star started to shine brightly they took her side and moved her ahead of Adelina and she was better than Adeilna for most of the season. I realize this and so does Adelina. That's why Sotnikova came out strong in Sochi she had so much to prove after the Russian Federation which backed Adelina for years had started to side with Yulia. That hurt Adelina a lot. In a way that motivation from Yulia and not skating in the team event really helped Ade's chances in the individual event.

And Yulia's hunger for gold in 2018:popcorn:

Like I said, nothing bad to say of Adelina. She is way more of a powerhouse. Yulia is sincere and in your face. I wouldn't count her out. She had to slave to a whole nation just to get to the Olympics. I actually read that in order for Yulia to skate in the team event they made her skate both. I don't have a source to quote now but I'm certain Eteri said she was told Yulia would have to skate both if she wanted to be in the team event. That's neither here nor there now but I have come to believe this as fact. I say go get some medals to both. Neither is done yet and both still have something to prove :)

Julia burning two journalists - first asked question she has apparently heard and answered too many times, second tried to be a jokester. Like it or not - she's is all business behind the microphone.
Another great Russian youngster Alexandra Proklova sitting next to her.

I would love to find the source who said Yulia had to skate both programs in the team event. It would have been perfect for Adelina to skate the short and Yulia the free. Russia still would have won team gold going away. But it's old news now. Yes Yulia needs to build for 2018 and Adelina as well if she is still as hungry as before. it is vital neither gets burned out in the next 2 years. We shall see. Yulia could be the best in the world by the time she's 17. I think most people expect that of her.

Sorry but I disagree. They clearly were backing Adelina for a long time now. They hardly tossed her to the side while providing her with sliding specialists, shape coaches, choreographers, masseur, doctor, nutritionist, etc. And its nothing against Adelina..she's 3rd for me with the Russian girls...behind Yulia and Medvedeva :) !! I just feel they set it up so Adelina would be fresh and they hoped Yulia would fight through it all as she had all season. I also think a lot of Adelina's warmness is from her being the star/prodigy for most of her life where as Yulia has had to fight for all has. I love the contrast between the two. I'm hoping Adele sticks around for a few more years as it will be interesting to say the least. I want next season to start already!! oh yeah I find it interesting to that Yulia not only has 42 pages now but that her view count is so high...175,000+ now with only 42 pages. She's is a phenom lol.

She has so much fire, it's so interesting to watch! This is why when the heat's turned up, you shouldn't add more oil than necessary. It's fine the way it is.
Ahhh, Proklova. Another one to watch out for.

I understand Russian only a little bit, but all skaters had been answering question about first wins in their careers, Julia said it happened at 6yo and she was awarded with a hare (stuffed or chocolate - dunno :) ).
After that she was asked, if she was in Samara before - she answered she was there one time for Cup Of Russia and finished competition on the podium.
Then frisky journalist asked her if she got hare as a prize then again.
She didn't like it at all, gave him a look and said with cold voice: "No, a regular medal" plus something about sarcasm...

We really need a devoted Russian fan/translator in this thread. Anyone?

I think it means even people who are not her fans and don't want to participate in the thread are curious about news regarding her, right?

I think there was an article during or after the Olympics which quoted Adelina as saying that she was pissed off at the Federation for not picking her for the team event. She explained that she used that motivation for the individual event.

So even with all the coddling and nurturing she got leading up to the Olympics, she felt that she was tossed aside because she had been expecting to skate in the team event as well.

Agreed. Not sure Adelina was coddled though and spoiled like some say because she is a tough cookie and works so hard like all the Russians do and we all know Yulia is a workhorse for a tiny girl. I do hope Yulia picks and chooses her events wisely in the next 3 years so she can avoid burnout and be the favorite for 2018. At this point if she stays healthy I see her being the favorite for gold in 18 even ahead of Adelina who we don't know if she will even have the same fire and desire as before her Olympic gold. Maybe someone else will swoop in and surpass Yulia but I won't believe it until I see it. With Yuna, Mao and Caro retiring the door is certainly open for Lipnitskaia to be the best in the next few years.

I`ll try to translate (sorry for bad English):
Q: there are 2 types of sportsmen, ones are happy for every medal, others want only the gold. What type do you belong to? Were you happy of World`s silver?
Yulia: It depends on the competition. On worlds my aim was podium. I was satisfied with silver.
Q: After Olympics skating in show should be rest and fun for you. How are you preparing to it?
Yulia: I has answered it yet (meaning other interviews).
Q: But we didnt hear.
Yulia dont agree to repeat.
Q: The most stupid or annoying question journalists asked you after Olympics?
Yulia: Almost every question was closed to it.
Q (the one who was asking about skating in shows): What question do you want to answer?
Yulia ignore it.
Q (to all): Do you rememder the first competitition you won?
Y: A local competition in Ekaterinburg. I was about 6. I remember there wasnt medals, for the first place I was gifted a toy (pink rabbit).
Q (to all): Do you have something common with Samara? some memories connected with?
Y: I was competing there in Russian Cup about 3 years ago. I was third.
Q: Did you get a toy (rabbit or bear) for it?
Yulia (irritating): Why a toy? The medal.
Q: The real one?
Yulia (with her special look): Yes, the real one. Be less sarcastic. The usual medal.
Q: Now you are travelling a lot. Do you afraid of flights? What cities are your favorite?
Yulia: I love Moskow and Ekaterinburg. Also I like Kaliningrad. Samara is also beautiful now.I dont afraid of flights.

So true!!! I have the same feeling when I read some interviews by Japanese media. Being famous is so tiring!

Thank you for your translation!:)
