Elizaveta Tuktamysheva

Ah, I lurk a lot but rarely post because I always feel a little timid about my relative lack of knowledge (and lately there have been a few threads with certain posts that have left me feeling :slink:)... but I've been so happy for Liza lately and the fan fests seem so fun that I thought I'd share my appreciation for everyone who's been sharing their knowledge of figure skating and love for Liza. These interviews (and images) were amazing, thank you :)

I have to admit, last season I was one of those people who was doubtful whether Mishin was still a good fit for Liza -- but of course, Mishin and Liza would know best about their coaching relationship and I'm happily eating my words since Liza has come back with so much strength and charisma.

Welcome to the Liza fan thread! - I hope we'll see you here often - the more the merrier. :) And thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! - it makes me so glad to see how genuinely pleased people are at Liza's success.

Can I join the club of Liza's fans, too? Not that I understand the technicalities, but I just love her presence on ice. As someone who is new to FS, I only recently saw Liza's programs from last season and it striked me how wonderful she was despite all those errors - does that even make sense? I mean, eventhough she bombed it in most of them, the show went on, so to speak. As much as I enjoy Lipnitskaya, I couldn't help but notice that when she started to struggle during her Cup of China performance, she just gave up and it showed. Liza, even during her not-so-good moments owned the ice. Now, during her oh-so-great moments I wonder how come the ice doesn't melt. Love this girl!

Oh, yes, of course! Welcome to the Liza thread, janaw - and I agree with you! I've loved her ever since she burst onto the scene in her senior GP debut - there was just something about her... and she never lost that, through all her travails and troubles. I just could not believe that they would last for ever, and that she would not come through. I just couldn't!

Oh, and I'd also like to take this opportunity to mention, that I'm not exactly a FS expert myself! But we can still enjoy what we see, can't we? :)

I am a fan of all the Russian ladies. However, I agree with you with Liza's tenacity. She never looks defeated. Sometimes, she does look tired (like in the LP at Skate America), but never like she wants to give up despite the errors. I also admire how she never blamed her mistakes on anyone. She accepted the fact that she needed to relearn her jumping techniques because her body was undergoing puberty. She didn't blame it on injuries, coaching, favouritism, new boots, etc. She just quietly worked on it with her coach.

And I love the photos of her off the ice. Here's another one with Veretennikova and Mishin: I have the same look at 15 when talking to my parents.

Yes, Liza is a fighter. That's one of the main reasons why I like her. I also like that she's got her own style that is very different from the rest of the ladies. On the ice and in real life, she seems very extroverted, which is nice, since I much prefer that to introverted skating.

Thank you for the welcome! Liza fans, unite! :)

I have to say, seeing how unexpectedly recent Grand Prix results have been panning out, I am actually thinking it's a been a blessing in disguise that Liza had her growing pains (physical & metaphorical) while the older vanguard (Yuna, Mao, Caro, &c.) were still firmly around. She's felt her own share of pressure and frustration during that time but has clearly emerged the stronger for it. While I have mixed feelings for the other girls (sadness for Julia and Anna but happiness for those who were able to focus on their own skating and do well), I am mostly relieved that Liza is in such a strong position right now.

.....

- Tuktamysheva - the first girl in your group who jumps absolutely masculine manner.

- It was not always. Lisa herself has repeatedly said that before coming to see me jump as "Balalaika". I did the first thing shoved her into a special vest and began to teach properly grouped in the air.

- Not the first time I hear about the vest already Mishina. A detail can tell about it?

- On the front side of the vest are sensors that are grouped, you need to close the hands. The position of these sensors can be changed depending on the size of the athlete's body. If you managed to close the sensors beep. If the signal is not present, then the grouping is made in error. You see, huh? The coach can say unconscious athlete that he badly clustered, and achieve nothing. And here is simple: the signal was? No. Go do it again.

This is important because without a dense grouping thou shalt not spinning fast.

- There is a difference, namely to teach someone jumping - a girl or a boy?

- No. The laws of physics are the same for everyone. Another issue is that women and men are completely different mentality, so the girls have to work with several different.

- A year ago, it seemed to me that you have lost all interest in working with Lisa.

- At me then too much "hung". But Lisa, I note, I began to teach, starting with her eleven years.

- It is difficult - to undertake an athlete who comes from other coaches?

- It is not easy. The same Lisa had to relearn. As Arthur Gachinsky who came to me seven year. We were still single axel taught.

- When in the early fall, you said that Tuktamysheva may miss the season due to injury, just reinsured?

- Not at all. For us, because the Olympic year began with the fact that Lisa cruelly torn ligament of the left leg. We have long been treated, and when they came out on the ice, it became clear that she could not ride. Then came the pain in the back, and such that Lisa could not walk, let alone ride. I then many "experts" told me to stop messing around with all Tuktamysheva. What it is - waste material. And now we see that Lisa wins not because wrong opponent, but because it is able to win against them, no matter how they skated.

- But the error in triple Lutz in Shanghai still happened.

- Rather, get a chance: Lisa little calculated run, jump and came too close to the board. For her, it was unusual - my athletes do not jump "on board." They do not need to hide their jumps from the judges.

- You do not have the impression that not very high marks Tuktamysheva steel due to the fact that your athlete is almost completely missed the last season?

- Well, to some extent, this is true. In figure skating has always been so: first you pressed and "nedodayut", but then begin to add even where you do not always deserve it. Rating Lisa at the beginning of the season was very low, and competing with the star, which was considered in Shanghai Julia Lipnitskaya, it would be naive to expect parity. The idea is clear?

- Absolutely.

- Well, if we ignore all the above, of course, for his jumping Tuktamysheva should receive somewhat more than any other athlete.

.

.
- You do not have the feeling that by the unusual number of starts in the beginning of the season Tuktamysheva at some point start to get tired?

- If you speak about Lisa at the stage of "Grand Prix" in the US, then she's just too much to worry - she told me about it.

- When, in your view, in the women's figure skating can happen qualitative leap in terms of difficulty?

- Tuktamysheva already close to that to perform a triple axel. In this regard, we need only prevents act stages of "Grand Prix". As for the athletes with the potential to jump 3.5 turns, I would say that the more chances there are those who made this leap while still being slender and small. But by the end of this Olympic cycle, I think we will see such jumps. Especially that Russian women's figure skating now remains the only species where there has been progress. All others still strongly slowed down after the Games in Sochi.

- And you as the coach put before Tuktamysheva task contains a triple axel in the program this season, knowing that jump will likely begin to break strongly posing all?

- Do not break, and destroy. This is, unfortunately, inevitable process. And quite traumatic. By training readiness we could include a jump in the program already on the Shanghai stage. But I still felt that we have more important tasks at the current point in time - you had to get into the final of the "Grand Prix". Boost training for immediate effect, I never seemed right.
