Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Gorgeous :cheer2: I totally understand why they gave him a standing ovation. It was magical and warm. I was smiling during all his performance
I only hope he can perform his SP and LP like that at GPF. But it's so difficult at this rate. He lacks training time. I am worried because he for sure wants to be on the podium very much. But his mind and his body...could he connect them and deliver when it's needed?

It isn't so bad if he has a bad year. IIRC during the off season, he did say that he will not win all the time. It might be a good learning lesson for him to start declining show invitations in the summer. At least it is only the beginning of the Olympic cycle. He has time to improve.

I still believe in the partern, though. That Yuzuru will go up in the second half of the season. He might not get the ultimate kind of victories this season, but for sure he will achieve something valuable for himself (and for his fans).

For sure all OGM are dealing with big slump right now. Adelina is injured, but personally I doubt that even if she were healthy she could perform exceptional (she once said now that she had won the OG, she didn't know what to do next, kind of at a loss). Yuna Kim also never participated in GP series after she won OG.

Yulia is dealing with a lot of stress as well. And it's so bizarre that Yulia's situation is kind of parallel to Yuzuru. So it's not only Yuzuru. This kind of stress is something tag along with titles and fame. I think he can make it. The point is how long. Still he's a strong fellow!

Why yuzuru changed his phantom costume
http://dayzdai.tumblr.com/post/103942960715/why-the-change-of-costume#notes

Because he couldn’t wash the blood off the previous one, so they had to manufacture a new one for him…
Also, he couldn’t have skated at all without bandaging his abdominal area, thigh, and both ankles…
cr: dayzdai

Also, is it true that he said in one of his interviews that if he take a break/rest, he may be unable to return forever??
oh yuzuru

HD quality of his EX: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2be8e7_yuzuru-hanyu-ex-花は咲く_sport

It's so beautiful and I love how the crowd gives him a stand ovation!

I don't know if this was posted before, but these are some of the newspapers after NHK trophy. http://londonarrows.tumblr.com/post/103932339664/bought-the-newspapers Even if Yuzuru was the last of japanese men in placement at the competition, while the other japanese skaters earned gold and bronze medal he still covers basically all the pages. I think it will be great if japanese media would put the other japanese skaters in more evidence to decrease the burden on Yuzuru. Japan has so much wonderful skaters in the men department, still Yuzuru has most of the media attention and pressure. Well, I think it's inevitable after all, it's a consequence of his titles and media will always be media don't matter in which country ... Sigh.

edit: What a interesting choice of photo that butt photo.

Thanks again to ice-kingfisher for another postNHK interview translation this time showing Yuzuru's mindset as to the GPF next month:

NHK Trophy: Yuzuru Hanyu Interview 11/30 #2
He entered the venue with a smile and a “Yuzu Joke”: “This room is hot. (Matsuoka) Shuzo-san must be in the room.”

He spoke firmly for the finals: “Not because I’m the Olympic or World champion, but I’m a challenger who barely managed to get in. As the last place Japanese finisher, I want to aim for the top.”

"I was so frustrated I couldn’t sleep. At first I was so tired I fell (asleep) right away, but kept sleeping and waking up from frustration and I was troubled by dreams."

"If this doesn’t set me on fire it’s worth nothing. I experienced a rare incident that not anyone would experience in one’s skating life. I think I’m very lucky to have so many challenges."

(TN: About Yuzu’s joke, hot=atsui also means enthusiastic. And Shuzo Matsuoka is well-known for his enthusiasm. :D Translated from Daily Sports.)
#nhk trophy 2014#こんなことがあっても自分を幸せ者って呼べるなんて#凄すぎる#my translation
(Emphasis added)

Oh Yuzuru, don't tempt fate there; you already have enough challenges on your plate. Seriously, the highlighted part shows that he is the kind of person who sees the glass as half-full than half-empty. Still I think he is level-headed and clear-sighted enough for this not to tip over to the Panglossian extreme.

and sorry for posting so rare then come out suddenly posting like this. I'm very new so still learning about the sport yet~ I'm always here reading all the post for update tho... ^^;;

Please don't apologize. We can all learn from each other. :) And thank you for giving us a translation of the caption in Dice's IG as to why he chose to compete for Japan rather than the US. He is another one who will give Yuzuru stiff competition in Nationals as Dice seems to be the only Japanese man right now with a consistent quad salchow.

Brian really should pack Yuzuru and take him to Canada. Japanese media don't have any respect for Yuzuru privacy. I saw yesterday video and before competition they were taking live view from camera that was in room where Yuzuru was preparing alone. That's just crazy and afwul....

Thank you for sharing the link. ( at the butt photo)

What sort of attention is that? I mean, what is the tone of the articles, are they mostly supportive, neutral or criticizing? I'm asking because I'm curious what is more typical for Japanese media, that's still a mystery to me. All I know is that they're insane. But are they cruel?
About the bold parts - you know, when Tuk(and later Radionova) won, in the news it was still referred to as' "Lipnitskaya lost to..". :drama: Here when a favourite athlete fails, articles with nasty headlines immediately follow it. I hope that (somehow) it's not like that in Japan. :)

lady #3....just missing Yulia

(Yuzu please do not gelled your hair like in the Xylitol commercial again, let it be free :disapp:)

Anne Line! Our only Norwegian representation in FS thus far... until her sister joins the rankings!

Maybe it's just me, but I find Yuzuru too cute for people to be focusing on his butt.

Unfortunately I have no ideia of how japanese media treats the top athletes in the country, and I have no japanese language acknowledgement (I barely speak english ) I mentioned "attention" because of the way Yuzuru seems all over news and newspaper since Sochi, much more than other men top skaters in Japan, and I think this isn't very healthy; but this is just my general impression by watching media videos etc. Maybe some of the japanese posters can share some information about the media treatment of Yuzuru, if its generaly positive or negative. I'm sad about hearing the media treatment for Lipnitskaya, I'm not an avid fan of her but I very much appreaciate her skating and always watch her performances when I have time, along with other skaters. I think media can strike negative thoughts on the skaters and affect their confidence. However, Julia is a strong young lady, I don't think she will care too much for this hopefully.

Agree! The far off-center part and pouffy top doesn't suit him. His hair looked great slightly gelled for the competition. Keep it that way Yuzu!

On another topic...is it confirmed he's staying in Japan until the GPF? I thought for sure he would head for Toronto with Brian.

That's what he said in the interview. He's waiting for Brian's email for his schedule. This means he's staying in Japan, or else he wouldn't need to wait for Brian's email cuz he can actually see Brian everyday! I really really wish him to return to Toronto for proper training.
