Anna Pogorilaya

My stream froze during her skate...I'm afraid to watch after reading the comments. I don't know what was wrong with her but I don't think it's easy for everyone to control their emotions, especially a 16-year-old, so I wish people would cut her a bit of slack. She probably does need some work with a good sports psychologist, but I'm sure she will be able to get past this. And maybe she's truly not feeling well - so many others are sick.

I agree. She did some stupid mistakes. She fell once and she messed up her spins... I'm sure she will be better. She has no bad nervous.

They changed her choreography a tiny bit for her firebird too... mostly hand gesters and small things like that... and I dislike the changes... it was like her exhibition intruded on her firebird.

My stream did that too (to add insult to injury for Anna). I did catch her Biellmann though, which was :hopelessness:. And it's the second time (over three performances) it's happened this season. I think she should consider taking it out, maybe work on changing the edges to get the levels (according to Mark Hanretty, that works? But I don't know how easy/hard it is to learn).

Honestly, I expected Anna to skate well. She nailed her first GP and had a good skate at Worlds last year. I figured CoR was a blip because of "skating at home" pressure. Maybe the problems are deeper than that...

She looked in the end like she was not feeling well at all.
I don't know what happened but she just couldn't breath.

Anyway, leave the comments and watch it if you want. It's not like it was a disaster.

I agree with hiring a sports psychologist. She seems to be a sweet, sensitive girl and CoR probably affected her psychologically more than we thought it did. Falling in a program is not a disaster but the fall seemed to have affected her mental state.

But she did look kind of sick after her free skater yesterday. I mean her lip looked pale and she grasped for breath. Maybe she was sick.

A russian fan, in our FB group, was telling us now that apparently Anna is suffering from anxiety attacks since a couple of weeks.
I know the feeling. I suffer from them too.

I felt really bad for her today...wow her coach is just so intense...

It's a pity because I honestly love her free program. It is a masterpiece in my books. Hopefully she can make a a strong comeback and get to Worlds.

Oh no... She's just 16. Her coach needs to be more gentle.

I don't know. I don't feel like judging because everybody has a way of dealing with this. I for example have learned how to live with that, and I don't like somebody to come close to me and ask: Are you ok? And other things that a person normally would think needs to be done, and feel like helping me.
I don't know in their case. Just saying it's not that easy to judge.

Mah, I think her coach might be nice or else how can Anna stay with her for so long. But her coach's stare is just...scary.
Anyways they said Russian fed might send their skaters to some sport psychologist if they need some consultant?

Of course she is nice. They are many interviews of her and Anna speaking about each other. It looks a very good relationship.

Yes, I think they do that. Yagudin did it.

Do any of you guys know if it is true that Anna wasn't invited to perform in the Gala? If she indeed suffers from anxiety attacks and nerves this is exactly the wrong way to go about it and I feel offended by the organizers of the Gala that every fourth place skater was invited but her. What kind of message does that send to her? She needs a confidence boost and not punishment.

Absolute Skating wrote on Facebook "The rule for gala was: winners in juniors, medallists in seniors and selected 4th places. Anna Pogorilaya was 4th but she wasn't selected for the gala. She was upset about that, she told us. And so did we! Because especially for this event she created the new gala program."
So I guess she wasn't invited. :frown:

Selected 4th places. Okay, and who is the only one who wasn't selected? Anna! Gosh, I'm really angry about this. For every other discipline they went with the fourth place finishers, how can one not be offended by this? They could have invited Julia as well, if they wanted her there. This however is so unfair, I'm actually fuming.

No "Rise Like a Phoenix" skate? It's one of the best exhibition skates with the total costume change mid-program. But after that spectacle yesterday, maybe it's for the best she take a little time off and regroup. Who wouldn't be concerned after seeing that?
